IVF #1

So, we're on track to go ahead with IVF.  I have insurance approval and picked up my meds today.  I have 5 days left of BCPs, then I wait for AF to start stims on CD 2 or 3(not sure which yet).  My only concern is that I want to be sure I'm cyst free.  I'm calling in tomorrow to request an u/s before I finish the BCPs, that way if I have any cysts, I can continue the BCPs a little longer.  I'm a little disappointed that I have to ask for an u/s when it seems to be standard practice before starting stims.  I know cysts can hinder follicle development and I don't want to get cancelled for something stupid like that.

Let me just say that seeing all the meds has caused me a little anxiety. I'm both nervous and excited, hoping I do everything right.  I've watched the online training videos several times, and know I can do it but it still seems a little overwhelming.  The retail on the meds I got was over $8700(thankfully I only had to pay $130)!  I definitely wouldn't go to this pharmacy if I was paying out of pocket, although hopefully they offer some kind of discounts for self-pay customers.  My RE ordered enough for 12 days of stims at my initial dose(300 Gonal-F/150 Menopur).  Hopefully it will be enough, if not too much.

Wish me luck!

So exciting!!!  I wanted to subscribe!  :smileyhappy:

Sorry they didn't think to give you an ultrasound. Hopefully they can get you in before you stop bcps.

I totally understand the anxiety.  I was scared half to death when I saw all those needles and medicine.  But when you get to throw empty vials away you'll feel like a rockstar. :smileywink:

Wishing you lots of luck and baby dust that this IVF cycle will be your BFP!!!

WOO-HOO!!! It's so close =) I think your plan of an u/s before BCPs end is a good one. Personally I might ask for both the u/s and an E2 test. If you have a small cyst but your E2 is low then it's a non functioning cyst and won't effect things but if your E2 is high and you have a cyst then it would be worth doing more BCPs to shrink it.

I know the pile of meds is overwhelming but let me assure you that after a day or two of stims it'll seem like you've been doing it forever =) I can tell you as someone who self paid for my fresh IVF, there is NO price break for self pay patients and it's total and utter crap! I am so far beyond relieved to have some insurance coverage for the FET.

Yay, I'm excited for you!! I bet everything is a little intimidating, but you will do great. Paying OOP is the worst, so glad you have the coverage. I'd ask for the u/s too.

Congrats on getting the insurance approval and finally being able to move on! GL with the stims and fx that there aren't any cysts hanging in there still.

Thanks everyone!  The anxiety has mostly subsided.  I have an u/s scheduled tomorrow morning to check for cysts.  If that's all clear, I think I'll be able to relax and get in a positive state of mind.  I forgot that I had to schedule a phone orientation with the patient education coordinator to go over all the IVF stuff, so I wasn't able to get an appointment until next Wednesday.  It's ok though because that is still before stims start and the information will be fresh in mind which is probably good.

Thanks Amanda.  The u/s came out good yesterday.  I have 7-14 small follies so hopefully that's enough to get me some good eggs.  They didn't give me a precise count, just ranges.  I have 2-4 on the left and 5-10 on the right.  So, I stop BCPs on Sunday, wait for AF, then it's showtime.

WOO-HOO! It's getting exciting now =) Happy things looked good in your u/s. Sounds like your antral count was good, that's awesome. Did they say anything about the cyst?

The u/s tech said no cysts.  Yippee!  I will mention that she was also training an obgyn resident so after she wanded me for a long time, she let the resident try.  I could definitely tell she was new at it, but I was nice about it.  After all, it's the only way to learn.
