IVF #1...and waiting!

Hi Ladies,

Wow, it's been so long since I've been on the boards.  It looks like everyone's been keeping busy!  Here's a not-so-litlte update from me:

After our 3rd IUI about... a year ago.. (eek!  is that right?!) - we took a looong break.  I was training for a few half marathons, worked on cleaning up our diets (still a work in progress), and started acupuncture/herbs.  I found a new RE earlier this year, recommended by my acupunturist.  Turns out they refer patients to each other all the time, and he lets her come in and do acupunture pre- and post-transfer.  He had me come in on my next CD3 to check my FSH, and we'd move forward if it was less than 10.  The first time was 15, and on 4/22 it was 9!  So I got the green light.

I spent the whole following day getting a u/s (4 antral follies!!  this is abnormally low, but I've always only had ONE, so it was huge for me!), calling a medical loan company, talking to HR about taking time off, buying a trunk full of meds.  It was a long day.  But I started stims that night 4/23.  We actually did a "mini-IVF," which is just smaller dosages, and only aiming for a few eggs.  Since I'm a poor responder, he figured that high dosages still wouldn't yeild a dozen eggs, so why try?  The plus: half the cost!

After 10 days of stims, I had my retrieval last Friday, 5/3.  We got 2 mature eggs out of 3 follies.  Both were fertilized with ICSI.  The embryologist was nice enough to update me Saturday and Sunday mornings via email... before 10am.  You better believe I was checking my email every 30 minutes!  This past Monday 5/6, we transfered both embryos - one 8-cell and one 7-cell.  They didn't tell me the grades, but from the pics they sent me, all the cells looked the same size and there wasn't any fragmentation I could see - but I'm not an embryologist.  :)

After a few days of having my nurse friend do my progesterone shots, my husband tried and does pretty well!  Beta is next Wednesday.  I have one FRER in the house.  And I'm too scared to use it that day!  I also didn't test out my trigger.  :(

I had acupunture again today, which helps me relax a ton.  It was great to have it done just before and after the transfer.  I also have been listening to the Circle and Bloom series for IVF.  Anyways, only our closest friends, family, and a few co-workers that need to know actually know.  I've been wanting to post on here, but the more I'm on the internet, the more stressed and obsessive I get!!

Wish me luck & I'll be sending baby dust right back at all of you!

Mary

Great to hear from you Mary!  So exciting that your IVF is underway and you are PUPO (pregnant until proven otherwise).  Your embies look beautiful and I'm sending lots of PTs your way for beta next week.  Please keep us posted!
