Intro - almost ready!

*waves hi* I'm E, I'm 29 and I live in Virginia. My husband S is 38 and we've been married for barely 2 months, although we have been together for 3 and a half years and shacked up for 2. :) S also has two kids from a previous marriage, but unfortunately they live quite a distance away from us right now.

I just went off the pill on Friday! I am actually surprised by this, because I thought we'd be married at least a year before we started trying. However, my very convincing husband has changed my mind, especially due to his own strong feelings about his age and TTC (he'd rather not be having babies past 42-ish). I had my annual appt. with my gyno on Halloween and was due to start a new pill pack but we decided not to and here we are! We are not actively TTC at the moment, but we both wanted me to be off hormonal birth control asap. The pill really killed my sex drive the whole time I was on it - not great for newlyweds! ;)

My doctor was very encouraging of me starting to TTC soon. I'm healthy, at a healthy weight, good age, don't smoke, etc. All she asked was that I start taking prenatals as soon as I stop the pill. I'm currently alternating my multi with my prenatals until I run out of multis. My doctor also had me tested for Rubella Immunity that day and I'm still waiting for the results of that, if I'm not longer immune I'll have to go back in for a booster shot. I also have

Hi E! Welcome to the board. You are off to a great start with getting a copy of Takin g Charge. If I were you, I'd wait to start temping until you've gotten your first AF after stopping the pill, that way, you'll have a clear indication of when CD 1 is, and be getting a fresh new start!

Welcome E! I remember the pill killing my sex drive too... Darn it! But just think, now you can have make up sex to make up for all those times you just didn't feel up for it... LOL

Good luck on your journey. I do hope your stay is short and sweet, and then again as long as you want it to be ;) I don't think anyone really is ever ready to have a baby..... But it is good to be prepared!

Hi Tiffany! :) Thanks for the welcome.
I'm still holding off on temping for the exact reason you stated. However I have started noticing and tracking my CF. The learning process has been pretty cool so far.

Thanks for the sweet welcome Shana! :)

I've been dying to ask - how do you pronounce your name? My sister's is spelled exactly the same and she pronounces it Shay/Shea-nuh. More often I find people say "shanna" like shannon.

E, I think when you're ready you're ready! You guys have know each other long enough anyway.

Reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great way to start learning about your cycles. When you are charting your temperature you have to start from the first day of AF until the next. I take my temps twice a day (in different color ink) at the same time 6am/6pm, which it's hard to get up that early on the weekend.... luckily, I am able to go back to sleep after. I chart on paper just because I like having a hard copy of my chart.

Taking pre-natals is also another great way to get your body physically ready! I take those, calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, and vitamin B6 (to help extend the lutel phase of your cycle for a viable pregnancy-- the days after ovulation until your next period... it has to be 10-16 days). The rest of the vitamins I am taking are good for a "girl."

I am sure you already know or at least will find out upon reading the other signals to look out for when ovulating... increased CM and the position of your cervix. Increased CM is an easy way to tell because you can tell when wiping after using the toliet it will be clear and stretchy. CP I don't check, but I can tell just because DH feels deeper (sorry if TMI).

Investing in ovulation test is a huge help. You can purchase them online in bulk at a reasonable rate. I buy the Equate brand over the counter. When there's two lines your close to ovulating and when they are the same color you are ovulating. They also have the digital ones that clearly tell you ovulating or not ovulating, but they are expensive. I will probably investin the Equate brand and digital just to have clear verification.... I test twice a day too just be sure because once you get your +OPK you ovulate 12-36 hours later. One time, I tested that morning and was unable to test again until we got home at 1am. That morning it was negative, but at 1am it was positive, so we bd.

GL and if you have any questions feel free to ask anyone. Everyone on this board is helpful and open.

Thanks for the super informative response Amanda. :) I have finally finished TCOYF, I read every word. It was fascinating. I've been tracking my CM and temping too even though my first cycle off BCP might be a little off. I am temping at 545 every am and going back to sleep after. I get up for work every weekday (for my main job) anywhere between 550 am and 630 am at the absolute latest. On the weekends I may get up at 7ish if I have to work my second job or if I'm lucky I'll sleep in. 545 temping and going back to sleep just seemed like the best solution.

I have been taking my pre-natals too, alternating with my multi though until I run out. Really interesting that you can supplement for a certain gender! I'll keep that in mind. I'd love a daughter too. Not ready to try OPKs just yet, we'll see how many cycles of casually trying it takes before I move on to those.

Thanks again :)
