Pregnancy signs..
Thu, 02-16-2012 - 3:42pm

I know, I know.. I'm sure there are a million posts on here discussing this same thing, so let me do one million and one here...

My DH and I just started trying last month for a baby. My Period hasn't been too regular lately, and last month it was late one week. I normally have certain signs when I know I am about to have my period. As soon as it comes, my lower back starts to hurt, and my breasts, which were tender to the touch for the past week, immediately stop hurting. Sometimes I'll get a bloody nose and usually get Diarrhea right before or the day of my Period.

Because we are trying for a baby, I had started watching my cervical mucus and position to check ovulation, etc. I didn't have an abundance of EWCM when I would have "ovulated" but I know i did ovulate - and we had plenty of sex during that time. After ovulation, my cervical mucus did not go back to a dry state like it would before my period. It stayed wet and clear, then milky and stringy. For the past few days, I am a little drier BUT i do have milk-like lotion discharge. Whether I always have this before my AF i really do not know. But normally i am dry and now i am not.

I don't really notice a change in my cervix position or texture (it's not incredibly high and soft, or incredibly low and hard) The other day, it actually felt like it was bumpy - but it was smooth later on.

Though my Period tends to be late, it was "due" on Feb 10th - so i am technically 5 days late. My breasts are heavy and will hurt if i squeeze them - my nipples are sore to touch - no noticeable bumps or change in color.

I am also having occassional pain in my abdomen, or rightside of my pelvic area - cramping - though I rarely have menstrual cramps - even when i am ON my period, so it is confusing that i am having these cramps without a period. They are really nothing too noticeable though.

And my lower back has been aching for the past week. The first day it started hurting, i was like "yup, here's my period!" but it never came. My lower back still hurts.

Also, my stomach is grumbling a lot more, (even around lower abdomen area) even when I just ate something. Usually happens during the day more so than at night.

And for the past few days I've had mild heartburn on and off - and I'm eating all the same foods i normally eat and i haven't had hearburn in a long time.

No implantation bleeding, no nausea, no gum bleeding, no implantation "cramps or back pain" as it has been more than a day, no severe pain in breasts just sensitive nipples, no changing color of nipples or areola, no frequent urination, no insomnia...

I know... go take a pregnancy test, right? Well.. I'm kind of not wanting to really do it - I know my period can be late so maybe it is late so i figure I should just wait until i get it or not. I keep telling myself that i am not pregnant - as the odds are very slim and I'm getting "PMS-like symptoms" so maybe it is just late, like all the other times.

But, maybe i am pregnant. Does it sound like i could be? Or do you not really cramp/lower back pain for longer than a day in the beginning? And maybe stomach grumbling doesn't mean anything? Or hearburn?

It would be nice to know if my symptoms are more in line with me getting my period, or more in line with me being pregnant! :)

(if i am pregnant, is it too early to test?)

Some of your symptoms sound promising! Not everyone will have all of the symptoms, especially this early in the game. If you are nervous about taking a test yet, wait a few more days to see if your periods show up. Good luck!

Hey! Some of your 'symptoms' definitely sound promising. Were you on any form of contraception before you started? Sometimes coming off the pill etc can do funny things to us. To be honest that is the only thing I can think of that might be causing it, without knowing you

Those sound like some likely symptoms to me!

Hi and welcome to the group! It sounds like some of the symptoms could be pg symptoms, but AF symptoms can also mimic pregnancy symptoms. Plus a lot of women don't have any symptoms until after they get a BFP. If your period is already late I think it's safe to test, but waiting won't hurt either. You could always wait and then test and see if you get a positive. FX'd that these are all good signs!

No birth control pills. If I had regular periods, I definitely would be more positive that I'm probably pregnant, but because I was late a week last month after having a 16 day long period, and prior to that, I didn't have my period for 2 months straight due to stress, I am not too hopeful for a BFP.

I read that you would have cramps and lower back pain only during implantation and only for an hour or so. Since my lower back pain and (mild occassional) cramping has lasted 4-5 days, it is making me think my period is on its way.

(Though I have NEVER had lower back pain or cramps ever before my period had come - usually only on the day of - and I am not one to cramp either). So it makes me question it.

And I've been having mild heartburn all week - and I'm eating normally - I haven't had hearburn in a long time.

I guess because I don't see tell-tale signs - no implantation bleeding, no color change or size in breasts, no nausea, no frequent urination - that I am just thinking "once again my period is late a week/two weeks".

Today is a week late. Still having hearburn and my stomach will not stop rumbling this whole week. Cervical mucus is still creamy/milky with an overall dry feeling. Cervix feels hard but silky, midway up i guess, and it is more at an angle and short now when before when it seemed to be straight down and longer.

My parents are actually coming for a visit next weekend. I think by next weekend, I will have either GOTTEN my period OR, I bought myself a pregnancy test! As it would be great to be able to tell them IN PERSON to expect a grandkid ;)~

A week is a really long time! haha (I think I may go to the dollar store and get a pregnancy test over the weekend and test since I am now past the 'week late' mark and I am getting "anxious")

I am now 10 days late on my period.

Lower back has been aching all this week - with some days moving into mid-back.

I've noticed a cloudy discharge occassionally after going pee. I read somewhere that that could be from the mucus plug? As it isn't a yeast infection, and it isn't ovulation.

If my back didn't hurt, I wouldn't think anything was out of the ordinary.

As I am reaching one and a half week's late, and now seeing a discharge, I am starting to think that maybe i AM pregnant - and my period is not just late due to stress.

I think I am going to run to a Dollar Store and get some tests ;)~

Is it possible to not have enough hcg hormone (for even a night test) being 5 weeks pregnant and being 10 days since a missed period?!

So I couldn't wait any longer so I bought a few dollar tree pregnancy tests. I read that they are just as accurate as the expensive ones.

Now, it says it's recommended to test in the morning because that is when you would have the highest amount of hcg hormone, but i figured that i was 10 days late, which would mean i would be about 5 weeks pregnant - surely I would have plenty of hcg hormone surging through my urine at ANY time.

Well, 3 minutes pass, 6 minutes, 9 minutes - negative.

Why is my back hurting for such a long time, why are my breasts and nipples sore, why am I getting heartburn, and why am I getting a discharge if I weren't pregnant?

If my period is late, my back never hurts until the day of my period - not days and weeks before. And I've never had a discharge right before my period either. And my breasts really only hurt a few days before, but they haven't stopped hurting since I ovulated!

I'm not quite sure what to do if my period doesn't come by the weekend. I can't be having all these issues if I am not pregnant or my period never comes! I guess a doctor's visit is in order to figure out what is going on with me.

Ive had very regular periods my whole life (28-33 days) and i just went 61 days without AF coming. I got my hopes soo high I was having cramps, sore nipples, taking naps, everything pointing to pregnancy and i wasnt pregnant (i think thinking about it so much made me imagine some symptoms). I took 5 hpts and got a blood test, all neg. Im really sorry if this makes it harder but I was so disappointed when the dr. Called with my neg result. I know how hard it is not to get your hopes up, I would just hate someone to be hurt by the result of the test like i was. I really hope you get your BFP. Sorry to be such a downer, im truly wishing you the best and lots of baby dust!!

So did your doctor tell you why you were having those symptoms if you weren't pregnant and your period didn't come?

My period has been very irregular - before being one week late last month, having it last 2 weeks straight the month before, and then not having it for 2 months in a row, I know my cycle is very messed up and I know what it is like to "wait" for it to come...

I ruled out being pregnant in the beginning - knowing that there is only a 20% chance of conceiving, and that the average length of trying is 6 months to a year - so how "lucky" would we have been conceiving on our very first try.

But then my period never came. Okay, i thought. This isn't unusual the way my cycle has been lately. So i kept waiting. But then my lower back started aching and no period came. My nipples are sore, I was getting mild heartburn every day, vaginal discharge... symptoms that i NEVER get before I'm due to have my period. So why all of a sudden, if i am NOT pregnant, would I be getting these symptoms before and after my period was supposed to come? And now it is day 11 and still nothing.

If I weren't pregnant and it is just late, fine -- but why am i still "in pain"!?

haha :(

Since you have a history of Irregular cycles I suggest you make an appointment to talk with your doctor about everything. It sounds like you are not ovulation regularly as well. All of these symptoms you are having could be caused by many different things such as pregnancy (FX for this), PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome), endometriosis, or something else entirely. Your doctor will also run a blood pregnancy test while you are there. GL!
