Struggling....

Hello Everyone! I'm new to this board and am here becuase my husband and I are TTC our first child and are finding it much more difficult then expected. I was on birth control for about 4 years and then stopped taking in February becuase we decided it was time to start our family. So my cycle was fairly regular right after stopping birth control for a few months and then lately it's gone all haywire. May was the last month I had a normal cycle. Since then I had 2 cycles in June, 2 in July, and 2 in August. Now my last cycle started on September 3 so as of today I am in cycle day 28. I thought for sure this was a good sign! But I tested Friday and Saturday and was negative on both. I plan on testing again in the morning. I did go to my doctor in August to let he know about all the cycles and she didn't seem concerned at all and ran some tests and everything came back fine.

In the meantime I'm really having a hard time with the fact that it's not happening. I find myself sad, jealous, and confused daily.

((hugs)) kbeth. I went off the pill in March after being on it for many years. I had 4 regular 28-day cycles, then a random 42 day cycle, then 29 days and now I'm on CD3 of my 7th cycle off the pill, 2nd cycle TTC. My guess would be that your body is adjusting after being off the pill. Hopefully it will be regular soon!!

Do you track your O? I have started checking CM and that has been helpful for me in figuring out when I should expect AF. For example, during my strange 42 day cycle, I had EWCM about two weeks before AF. So I think that was just late ovulation. Then during my 29 day cycle, I had EWCM about two weeks before AF. Unfortunately I wasn't checking during the first 4 cycles - we were still deciding when to TTC so it wasn't really on my mind to check for anything or write down dates.

Good luck and FX for a BFP for you soon!

You're in the right place for a lot of support and great women! Welcome, welcome! I highly recommend keeping track of your temperatures. Charting my BBT has been very insightful to me in terms of tracking whether or not I'm ovulating.

Can you give me some insight on how to do that? I've heard about it but don't really know where to begin....

i went off BCPs in february and i'm still here, too!
i think everyone is always so afraid on BC to miss just one pill and end up preggo. then when you go off and are ready for that baby, it's really tough to watch month after month go by with no BFP.
it's good that your tests came back normal (what did you have done?). 6 months if average, so i wouldn't worry too much just yet. that being said, i totally get it. it's really, really hard when things don't happen when we want them to happen. hang in there!

sorry, i should've read the thread instead of just your first comment...

a lot of us here use fertilityfriend.com - it's a little bit clunky, but it's super helpful! it's really beneficial to know what's going on with your body (even though sometimes we have wacky cycles and STILL don't know!) and when. it helps with timing and knowing what to expect. temping is huge because it's the only way to know for sure that you've Od!
good luck!

Hi Kbeth, I would recommend picking up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It has a whole section on how to properly use the temping method of tracking your cycle process. The basics is that you want to purchase a Basel Body Thermometer, most would say digital is better. You can get them at pretty much any pharmacy. Then, you take your temperature every morning at roughly the same time, after a full night sleep. You take your temp before doing ANYTHING, no peeing, no getting out of bed, no drinking, etc. The temp is recorded to 2 decimal places. You record the temp everyday. Then, you'll be able to see a rise in your temp right after ovulation. Fertiltyfriend.com is a website that will help you interept your temp readings.

Welcome to the board, and do hope your stay is short and sweet. I really cannot stress how helpful reading Taking Charge is. So many people are taught that "every woman's cycle is 28 days, everyone ovulates on day 14" that we believe. It simply isn't true, yes, some women's cycles match that, but more don't. Taking Charge was VERY helpful to me. Please try not to stress, I've been off B/C since January 2010 and I'm still here!!

Welcome to the board kbeth85, this is a great place for support! I wanted to pass along some links that talk about how to chart your temperature.

The book that littlebirdy mentioned is also a wonderful resource, the author wrote some articles for us if you wanted to check them out:

KBeth,

Hang in there, I feel the same way you do. I went off my BC in January and have been trying officially for 5 cycles this month and we haven't had any luck yet either. It's never easy to watch everyone else get pregnant. I work at a place where we are all in our 20's and about 10 of us got married around the same time. 2 of the girls are now pregnant with their second baby and I'm still waiting to get that BFP!

Hi! Welcome to the board! I think we can all relate to the feelings that you are having. It is tough to stop BC and then have to wait so long to get pg. Especially when we watch our friends get pg! Unfortunately, it takes some of us a really long time to regulate after being off the pill.

I have been temping for 2 cycles and it is helpful. I also use fertilityfriend.com in order to keep track of my temp each day. If you are going to temp, definitely get Taking Charge of Your Fertility- it's
