Hi all! I have a really weird situation...I'm applying to grad programs and TTC at the same time.

Go for it. I started TTC last fall while in my last year of a doctoral program, and yeah, it was really fricking hard (I was also teaching full-time at the university to pay my way.) The stress of both was really tough, but I kept plowing ahead. I ending up having a m/c and not getting pg until this year, after I graduated.

I still struggle with worries about interviewing for full-time work while I'm showing, and balancing being a mommy with academia. But Andrea is right -- you've gotta do it when it is right for you and your family. Too many women put off starting a family until after they've finished years of school, or until after they've landed a full-time job, or until after they've gotten tenure....and you know what? I have WAY too many colleagues who have struggled with infertility as a result. Do it when you and your partner are ready. There is **never** a "convenient" time to have a baby, and it will be hard.....but that will be true even if you wait until after grad school. If you're ready, go for it!

I agree with everything these ladies have said. I think Andrea said it best when she said that both aren't mutually exclusive. You can certainly do both and make it work when you do have your baby. Will it be challenging? Of course! But someone who is driven can certainly get everything accomplished, it just might not be the way in which you had imagined.

Good luck to you - I hope you DO get accepted, right along with your BFP. :smileyhappy:
