Semen CAUSES yeast infections?

I am probably going to sound like an ignoramus posting this, but I read that you can prevent yeast infections caused by semen by wiping a good amount of it out of you after sex. Does that affect fertility? I know a certain amount is going to leak out anyway, but just wanted to be sure. It really sucks that it can bring the alkaline level down to allow a yeast infection in. Anyone else had this problem and if so, have you been able to ttc regularly without recurrent yeast infections? What methods have you used to prevent them from happening in the first place?

Hi. You may want to wait 20 minutes or so, then try to wipe off as much as you can. That should give the swimmers a good chance to get through your cervix, and be soon enough to keep the semen from causing problems. Most likely all that are going to make it are out of there by then. That's such a hard situation. I thought I was getting one on my first cycle of clomid, and at a ton of yogurt. I don't know if it helped or not but it never progressed to a full on yeast infection. All of the things you're not supposed to do usually, that you want to do for TTC seem to cause problems:) UTIs, YIs, etc. Did you use condoms before TTC, or just usually get up right away and go to the bathroom and clean yourself up? Have you had any other lifestyle changes? I think I remember that you got the YI from antibiotics, I'm sorry if I remember incorrectly.

You can also try using Instead Cups/Soft Cups, which you can put in immediately after BD. I like them because they make me feel cleaner. You can "scoop" any semen that may have leaked out before you put it in. Once you have the cup in place against your cervix, you can get up and go about whatever you want because the cup holds the swimmers up in place. You can then clean up as needed.

Thanks. That's a good idea! I may just try that. Oh. And now I'm on an antibiotic for a sinus infection. I've started eating lots of yogurt.
