So we just started TTC and I was just wondering if taking a multi-vitamin is good enough or if I should start taking a prenatal?

I would def say to start taking a prenatal. I take that along with a b-6 to help out my lp. The prenatal has the folic acid you need, and its good to have some built up in your system before you get pg. So its just better to get in the habit now of taking it. If you don't want to take a full out prenatal you could just take folic acid you get from like the vitamin section of the store. I think it would do the same thing? Not 100% sure on that. But you can get somewhat cheap ones from the store. Also my friend who was pg couldn't take prenatals she just couldn't keep them down. So her dr told her to take 2 flintstones chewables instead. I guess it has what you need. And are easier on your stomach. Hope that helps!!

Thanks Ashlee! :) I can take a multi-vitamin with no problem so hopefully I can take the prenatal. If not, Flinstones vitamins don't sound so bad! haha.

I was also told to start prenatals at least a month before we started trying (when I went off the pill our Dr told us to wait one month so I started the prenatals when I went off the pill).

I take a good multi and additional Folic Acid. My doctor said it was fine. I don't like to have prenatals in the house when I am not pregnant, it just reminds me of what I don't have.. weird I know but I can't help it.

Happy prenatal shopping!

Interesting pov, Lesley. I sometimes feel that way, or if someone sees my bottle of prenatals on the bathroom counter they'll think we're either trying or I'm already pg. Of course, we all know the responses to those assumptions!

ITA with the pp on the prenatal/multi-vitamins. Make sure you're getting a healthy dose of folic acid regardless of what you take. You may be able to get some through your dr so you don't even have to shop extensively.

Thanks ladies! I picked up a bottle of Target brand PNVs but am going to wait and talk to my new OBGYN about it. I see her October 5th, so it's right around the corner!
