Anyone use BumGenius CDs?

I have gotten some much appreciated schooling from Lorien (thanks Lorien!) about the different types of BumGenius CDs, so I'm wondering what other people think and what have been your favorite type if you use them.

So, to those mommies who use BGs... which do you prefer (and why?):

BG one-size organic AIOs (a true AIOs as I understand it - not a pocket dipe)?
or
BG sized AIOs (so, not the one-size kind, the XS/S/M/L type that is also a true AIO)?
or
BG one-size pockets (3.0s or 2.0s)?

Even if you're not a BG-using mama, can you tell me if you like or dislike pocket dipes? We're trying to decide if we should add any pockets to our collection or stick with prefolds, fitteds and true AIOs.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!

Thanks ladies!

I haven't tried their one sized AIOs, but I have one xsmall AIO and a couple of their pockets. We decided we really don't like pocket diapers, the whole sticking your hand in to pull out the inner was just a bit much for both me and DH, plus the inner would occasionally move weirdly and not be that absorbent. We prefered our fuzzibunz to the one sized BG as well, but that is partually because we prefer snaps to velcro, but also because the BGS fit both Desmond and Eloise funny, and they are both different builds.

That being said I love our BG AIO, it is nice and comfy and works great, we didn't get anymore because it does take awhile to dry it so we went with DreamEZE all in ones since they dry a lot faster then the BG one, but both DH and I did really like the BG. We did use our pockets again for Eloise in the small size because we weren't buying new when we had perfectly serviceable diapers, but we didn't buy bigger then smalls for Desmond and remembered why when we used them with Eloise (just talking pockets in general here).

Our main system is just fitteds and AIOs and it works wonderfully for us.

Thanks for the input, Sarah - that's the way I've been leaning (against pocket dipes). I recently got 11 BG one-size organic AIOs on ebay for pretty cheap, and then I also have three sized BG AIOs and a couple of DryBeez AIOs as well (and I think one Thirsties AIO too), so I'm going to stick with those and return the one pocket BG I got as a gift. I have heard that the BGs take a long time to dry - that's the only down side I'll have to get used to I guess!

Hey Ella,

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I love my Bg OS pockets. I have four of them, and I think they're awesome. One nice thing about pockets is if you have a really heaver pee-er, or for nighttime, you can double stuff them. I've found that to be really nice.

I also don't find stuffing or un-stuffing to be difficult at all. Of course I use prefolds and I fold all of those to put them away, so stuffing a BG takes less time than that.

I also love the way they grow with baby.

My only complaint would be that the velcro isn't perfect, but I'm assuming that's probably the same with all the velco BG. Mine is already getting a little worn after only 4 months.

Anyway, there's my thoughts on it, good luck deciding. I recommend maybe saving money for bigger sizes instead of buying them right away, because you might change your mind about what you like after baby is here, and also, it's really fun to buy new diapers. I think anyway...

Hey Ella,

So I was at our local consignments store today (where they also sell cloth diapers) and the owner was talking up these Gro Baby diapers. They seem more expensive than the bumgenius, but she seemed to think they were pretty cool, and I think if baby doesn't get poo on the cover part you can snap in a new insert so you don't need as many of them as you would BG's. Anyway check them out if you're interested:

I saw them in person and the velcro definitely seems much higher quality, and they're organic.

Thanks Grace! That's also really helpful -- yeah, I'm done buying dipes for now, I think. I'm going to see what works for us and then probably buy more later. I'm ready to be done spending money on CDs for the moment - although, I've done a pretty good job keeping the cost down, I'm averaging about $6 per diaper so far... so that's not so bad I guess. :)

I'm going to look into those GroBaby dipes. Did you buy any for James?

No... I want to buy one for James just to see if I like it. But, I kind of have all the diapers I need, and I think DH would be irritated with me if I bought another one... But, they looked pretty cool!

Wow-6dollars per dipe?! That is awesome!!

We are going to end up buying all of our intial ones new. The prices I was finding for used just weren't that big of a difference, and I really need to know exactly how the new ones hold up so that then when I pick my favorites I can look for more specific used diapers and know what I am looking for.

Plus Thomas thought buying used was a bit strange- which doesn't matter and wouldn't have affected whether I bought them or not but it does mean he is willing to shell out the cash for new.

Now I am just hoping for some sort of holiday sale on one of the bigger websites so that when I do make the big purchase I can still save a bit. We have to order them before the end of Dec so that my SIL can bring them back with her from the States.

Ash DH is weird about buying used as well, so I have never bought a used diaper, he just finds the idea strange. I have bought used wool once, which he didn't have a problem with, but he doesn't like the idea of buying used diapers, though he doesn't mind that Eloise is using Desmond's old diapers.

Yeah I can understand finding it strange- although they are all washed so I don't really see the problem. However it isn't like I have a problem buying new:)

Did you find that the diapers you preferred for Desmond work just as well for Eloise?
