Check in please!
Name: Suzie
DH/SO/PS*: Joe
Kiddos: Grey, 17 months
Tell us something each kid is up to: Greyson is definitely an outdoors kid and loves how much yard we have. He likes watching for animals and helping landscape (throwing grass, dirt, and mulch.) He waves and says byebye to everyone and everything causing us to attract attention, which I am so not used to, but it's fun to see that he makes people smile. :)
What are you looking forward to this month?:
DH and I are spending 4 nights at the beach without Grey and then he'll join is for the rest of our vacation. I'm having mixed feeling about it, but I know he will be happy and well taken care of by his grandma.

-Suzie :)

Erica - I'm sorry Jonah has been acting differently lately, that would be hard as a mama. It sounds like you know that these behaviors are likely due to all the changes in his life recently with Charlotte's arrival and the big move... so I would think it is just a passing phase and not a TRUE shift in his otherwise kind personality. But still, I'm sure it's hard to see :( How old is Jonah? I'm not a BTDT (yet), and of course the path you take in terms of discipline depends on the age and his level of understanding; but you are right that he needs to know those behaviors are okay. In terms of actually disciplining him for the behaviors, is he old enough for time out? Or, what did/do you guys do with Fletcher? Also, maybe he could benefit from some "special" one-on-one time with either you or DH? Like an outing or something where you could talk to him and find out if something is bothering him (if he's old enough to express this yet?) and reassure him that he is still important and that you "need" his help (some kids get into the "helper" role better than others...)? Easier said than done, I'm sure, I know that must be really hard right now with three kids in a new city...

GL! I hope your old Jonah returns soon... I am sure that he will.

Erica: Are you and DH making sure to spend one on one time each day with Jonah? I am sure that's hard with all that is going on, but it may be what he needs. Also, books, books and more books. Ray always responded well to changes when we read about it. The Bernstein Bears have a great one on moving.

Ella: Thank you so much for your very thoughtful reply. It was so nice that you didn't dismiss how strong my feelings are. Jonah just turned three, and he is highly verbal. He definitely understands being disciplined, but I'm just not sure that I want to go in the Time Out direction. It feels like pushing him away when it seems like he needs us to pull closer instead. You've given me some good questions to think about. Thank you!

Kate: You're right...we haven't had much one-on-one time at all. If I can put Charlotte down at all, I try to go to the bathroom or clean. It's Monday, so it feels like a fresh start, and I'm going to choose to use those rare moments to give Jonah some time. We do read a lot (always with Fletcher and Jonah together), but while I had lots of books about new babies, we never read a book about moving. Maybe I'll look for a few at the library today. Thanks!

Erica would it be possible for DH to have one on one time with both Jonah and Fletcher on the weekend? Even for just an hour or two? It really helps here, even if I can't be too far from Sully. DH will take either Eloise or Desmond somewhere alone so they get some time focused just on them. He's taken them to the Aquarium and other fun places, or even just simple things like shopping. It really seems to help a lot. It can actually be done after work as well, though we've found weekends are easier since we have more time. My in-laws also take one of them on Friday's so they get alone focused time there too, but that one is harder without family nearby.

As for us we're in Atlanta now. Flying with 3 small ones, and a car seat was a bit tough, but all three of them were great on the flight, even with it being delayed. Eloise is forward facing in her car seat for the moment since my Mom's car and the car seats we have don't work out for her to be rear-facing. She is almost 2 1/2 and 21 pounds so I can deal with it temporarily. She'll still be rear-facing once we get back home, but I am okay with it for the week I think.

Oh Sully has his first tooth and I am pretty sure his second one is close behind. We noticed one of the two bottom ones had popped through on Saturday. He has tried biting me a few times, but stops quickly. His second one feels like it will pop through any time now as well. Oh and we had his first diaper blowout this morning, which was lots of fun.

Thank you for the sig Mary
