Hope everyone is having a great 4th of July weekend. We went to Columbus Ohio and David saw his first fireworks. The pictures are so cute of him. Here is a link to our photo gallery of the pictures. www.crundwell.us/our-photos/thumbna...
Anyway we stayed with his friend and him and his wife are in Boston seeing her family. She is pregnant with #2. They had their first in March of 08. It is the time frame I was thinking of. Well since his friend told him she's pregnant my dh has mentioned having a #2 a few times just in the past week. So I guess that is a good thing. I'm not ready to TTC #2 and wasn't planning of even talking about it until probably a year from now and then hopefully TTC either shortly before or after David turns 2. I am not TTC in March again as I am not having 2 December babies and probably Feb and April as I don't want two months of birthdays. Finances are a big issue as I don't know if we can afford 2 in daycare and I would love to stay home once I have the second but it depends on dh's job and if he can get a decent raise. We're also hoping to pay a lot of our credit card debt off and not taking any vacations by doing it so that we could possibly afford me to stay home. Dh has a lot in student loans and that really kills our finances.

Ack! My brain is such mush today! A few things I forgot to add to my last post (because it wasn't long enough as it is, lol)...
Ella - Thanks for sharing the name of the BLW book. I just checked online and my library has it so I'm going to check it out. I'm really into the idea and think skipping purees and having Selin eat what we eat would be awesome!
I also forgot to mention that today at my LLL meeting, one of the moms mentioned she's 10-11 weeks PG w/#2 and I immediately felt a sense of jealousy well up inside me! It kind of took me by surprise, it's not like we're TTC #2 anytime soon, well at least not until next spring/summer, I'm guessing, but I just got SO JEALOUS when I heard her announcement. We're probably around the same age, her DD is 9 mos. and they were trying and she said it happened faster than TTC her DD. The thing that gets me I guess is that this girl complains all the time about everything and anything (including being PG) so it kind of made me angry even more because she didn't even seem happy about being PG again.
Adrienne - Do you mind setting up a new baby chat for July? I don't know about you gals but it is so much easier for me to keep up with the thread when it is broken down month-by-month! Thanks!
Ashley - Good to hear from you! You should stop by the Feb playgroup. :-) Are things getting better with DH and his housework expectations?
Sandy - I hope the new pump will do the trick for you but like everyone else has said, you shouldn't beat yourself up if you do end up having to switch to formula. Six months is awesome!!
Cara - Sorry to hear about Tenley's weight issues. Hope she'll be gaining soon!
Sorry to anyone I missed, been having a hard time keeping up lately!
AFM - Selin had her 4 mo. checkup last weekend and was 14lbs 4oz and 25-1/4 in. DH and I were expecting her to be 15-16lbs. Still having bottle issues so we're going to try a sippy cup next. I was thinking to start rice cereal when I return to work so at least if she won't take the bottle while I'm gone, she'll get some sustenance, but I also wanted to do the BLW like Ella so I haven't completely decided yet. Our pedi said we can start it whenever we want and just left it at that, didn't really talk about the nutritional value. I asked her about BLW and to my surprise, she said she'd never heard of it but said it sounds like a good idea when Selin is 6-7 mos.
DH left for his military duty overseas last weekend so I'm on my own for the next month. I stayed at my parents' house Sun and Mon night and we're heading back there this weekend. He officially "surrenders himself" to the military tomorrow (now today over there) so he called one last time tonight to say goodbye since he doesn't know when he'll be able to use the phone next.
I'm also battling a nasty infection from an insect bite (I'm thinking spider) on my upper left arm/shoulder. I got bit last Wed/Thurs and by the time I got to my parents' house on Sun, it was pretty nasty. My stepdad's home health nurse took a look at it Mon morning and suggested I get it checked out because it was hard, warm to the touch, and red = infection. So I called my OB/GYNE and they got me in for later that afternoon. She confirmed that it is infected and gave me an antibiotic that is safe for nursing mothers.
Cara, I'm sorry Tenley didn't gain that quickly since her last appointment, but I think you are doing everything you can and doing everything right, and you are totally right--it is a great benefit to her that she is still getting BM from you, even if she is also getting formula. The BM will help with all her immunities and is really great for her, and since she's not an efficient nurser, the formula is great for her, too, so she can get plenty of nutrition.
(((HUGS))) And WTG with the rolling! Woohoo!
Oh Sandy I'm so glad you figured things out! Wow I never would have even thought of the pump as being the issue! What an "easy fix"!
But in the end I agree with you--you did a great job BFing David this whole time and you should be proud of yourself even if he ends up getting some formula sometimes.
But hopefully you'll be able to keep BFing now that you have the pump issue worked out!
Hi Mamas! I have been reading, but, as usual not getting a lot of posting time. Poo! Anyway, thought I'd pop in to say hi. Yay for all the rolling WTTG babies! They are growing so fast, aren't they? Before you know it we'll be talking potty training and first dates (hopefully in that order, haha).
Oh - and BLW stands for Baby-Led Weaning. It's a slightly different way of introducing solid food where you don't puree foods, you offer pieces of food and allow baby to self-feed.
Ash - I read this book as my guide for BLW: http://www.amazon.com/Baby-led-Weaning-Helping-Your-Baby/dp/0091923808 The book answers a lot of common questions/misconceptions about BLW (choking, allergies, etc.). My friend is a family doc and she got me interested in BLW and loaned me that book to read. To answer your question, yes we skipped rice cereal altogether and went straight to offering her finger foods. Our ped told us that there really is no health benefit to rice cereal and that we didn't have to give it to her at all. We do make sure to offer her iron-rich foods so she gets enough iron, and she also gets iron through BFing (though not enough, which is why we offer her food that also has iron in it). I read that book about a week before Eliza turned 6 months old - I was all set to feed her purees, but that book totally changed my mind! Eliza loves feeding herself and is a great eater. I haven't seen her turn any food away so far - she eats almost everything we eat now. I can't say enough about it, it really worked well for us. But then again, not all babies are alike, and I know it might not be for everyone! :)
I'm glad Logan is gaining well and that BFing is going well! Good idea about the nanny sharing. And I'm right there with you about not wanting to go back to school in September. I feel like it's coming up so quickly, too!!! :(
I am actually going to do personals!! I only went back a little bit though.
First yay to all the babies rolling over recently - Selin, Tenley and Ethan!!
Ella - I am really interested in BLW. Did you skip cereal/rice altogether? Is there a particular resource you are using for information?
Ash - Glad things are getting a little easier with Teddy, but still sounds like he is a handful. Maybe he will be a really easy teenager :)
Mari - Glad to hear the Mastitis is cleared up but that sucks that you and Fede were both sick.
Christine - Sorry you didn't get the job at the hospital. FingersX that you find a great part time job. Hope it is going well with DH gone.
Cara- So sorry to hear T hasn't gained enough weight still. Has your Dr. mentioned any supplements for you. I am taking Fenugreek and Reglan (prescription) and it seems to really help my supply. Also we just went in for Logan's 4mth and additional weight check. He gained a lb in two weeks but the Dr said she would have been happy if he had remained even. She was actually surprised by how much he had gained. I think any weight T has gained is great.
Sandy - Happy Belated Anniversary! Sounds like David is doing great. As I mentioned to Cara my Dr recommended some supplements to me for building my supply. I am taking an herbal supplement called Fenugreek and a prescription called Reglan. I can really tell a difference with my supply. Hopefully it's just your pump though.
AFM - Logan had his 4 month check up yesterday. This was the 3rd time we went to the Dr in 3 weeks. Like I said the first week he had a weight check and hadn't gained any weight in close to 7 wks. The next week we went in and he gained 6oz and this week he gained a little over 6oz. The Dr was really pleased. He went from being in the lower 18% to almost 22%. So he now weighs 13lbs 13.5oz and is 26.5in tall, 85% and is head is still tiny at 17in, 36%. I have a long, skinny. She was really pleased with how he is developing though and isn't concered at all. We are no longer supplementing bottles and he is just BF again now. I will have to pay close attention though b/c his next check isn't until his 6mth checkup. He did have a formula bottle the other night when the inlaws watched him. My BM stash is gone. I am not worried about it though. If he gets formula, he gets formula. Atleast he is mostly getting BM though.
He isn't really doing anything new lately. He rolls all the time but still not from back to tummy. He loves sitting up and cracks up when he looks in the mirror. I have little finger prints all over his mirror above the dresser from him. He is so friendly and smiles at everyone. I keep meaning to go to a neighborhood playgroup but it never works out. Like today it was at 11:00 and of course he falls asleep for his nap 10 till. So we didn't make it today.
We did get a nanny share set up for when I go back to school. A family up the street has a 7mth old little boy and we are going to share a nanny. This was ideal for me. He gets to be around another child but almost one on one attention and the cost is split between the two families. Of course I am not looking forward to it at all. I am really enjoying being home with him.
Well I don't have much else. Hope you all are doing well.
Well, I spoke to the LC and it turns out I am doing everything right and have good supply but it's probably my pump. So Medela is going to send me a new one. I just had to provide my receipt as it's still under warranty. So hopefully this will help. I called Medela once before and then it started working again and I should have realized this was the problem as when I first started pumping i never had output issues at all. They said I should have it by tomorrow which is good since we're leaving to go out of town.
Thanks for the wonderful siggie Heather

Sandy - Sounds like we are in the same boat, unfortunately. Sorry things aren't going well with BFing, it's so frustrating, isn't it?
Julie - How exciting that Ethan rolled over! One of the first big milestones, I think T did too yesterday (see AFM)
AFM - So T only gained 3 oz. at her last appt, the Dr. had said last week she wanted to see no less than 4. :( As most of you know, I've been working on my supply and feeding her constantly for the last three weeks, but it's still not enough. So I have to supplement with formula. :( I'm trying to be okay with it, but feeling a bit guilty that I couldn't make it work. The Dr. thinks that it's something with her not being efficient enough of a nurser, which makes me feel a little better, there's not much I can do about that. If at almost three months she hasn't figured it out I feel like she isn't going to. So she gets three bottles a day now and usually four BFing sessions. So I only have to feel half guilty because she is still getting breas tmilk for half her feedings, right? LOL.
Also, I *think* she rolled from tummy to back yesterday. The reason I'm not positive is because I didn't see her do it and I thought one of the girls might have helped her, but they both swear they didn't. She hasn't done it again though so we'll see.
