Liz - Peter cracks me up, your stories about him are hilarious!

Erica - did I already say how adorable your pics were? Well I meant to because they ARE! :smileyhappy: Sounds like your homeschool project is starting out great!

Ash - I'm glad Ferdi so far is taking it easy on you and you all are settling in well!

AFM - the usual over here. Lots of talking and singing happening, the girls are inching toward 15 months, pretty crazy how fast the time goes.

NAP Question - I know kids vary, but when did you guys all switch from two naps to one, and how did you make "the switch"? The girls' schedule has looked like this for quite a while:

Up: 6:30/7am

Nap 1: 8:30-9:30am

Nap 2: 2:30pm-4/4:30pm

The last couple weeks they have been waking up later, more like 7:30 and they don't seem anywhere near tired when I put them down for a morning nap. Sometimes they will fall asleep after playing in their cribs for 20+ minutes, sometimes they won't sleep at all. I'm thinking they may be ready to quit that first nap. So I'm thinking that means that their afternoon nap would move up in the schedule, earlier in the day, right? Maybe around 11/12? I guess we'll play around with it this weekend and see how they do, but I'm just curious what that transition has looked like for other people. TIA!

Andi- We switched at about a year because like your experience he just stopped taking the morning nap- he really fought it and we just thought it was time. It took a few days for the one nap to work but the transition was relatively quick- maybe 3 days?

In the beginning the nap had to be quite early at around 11 and we moved bedtime back by about 45 minutes for about a week so that he could deal with the longer wake times. Now he takes one nap anytime between 11:30 and 1 depending on what we did and he sleeps about 1.5 hours. However in the beginning the one nap was more often 2 hours but as they get older they just need less sleep.

Good luck on the transition!!

Liz - Call Me Maybe? LOL!!! Too funny!

Andi - we also switched at about a year. He just wasn't tired at his 10am-ish nap anymore. I'll admit it was a bit of a tough transition for him, because it was hard for him to stay up until 12pm. So, for the first few months, he'd go down to nap at about 11:30 (and sleep for 1.5-2 hours) then go to bed at 7pm. Now, he naps at about 12 or 12:30 and goes to bed at about 7:30.

AFM - speaking of transitions, Evan's daycare is closing as of Friday, so we're starting the transition to the new place now and it's not going super well. He did okay on Monday/Tuesday when we visited and I stayed with him, but this morning DH dropped him off and I picked him up an hour later and he was upset. I guess he did okay for the first 30 minutes, but then there was a rush of kids coming in and that's when he noticed we weren't there. He calmed down by the time I got there, but then as soon as he saw me he burst into tears and started calling for me :smileysad: Then I took him to his current daycare, and he was so upset that I had to stay with him for a while until he calmed down --- only for him to freak out again once I left.

I feel so bad for him. I know this is going to be hard on him, but there's just nothing we can really do. Hopefully it will only last a little while and he'll be happy at his new place.

Sigh --- sucks to see your child so heartbroken, you know?

Andi - the twins napping schedule if very close to Teddy's - up 6:30/7, nap 9:30-11:30, possible 2nd nap 2:30-4pm. Sometimes he'll treat me and sleep till 9am, and then it's a one nap day around noon for about 3 hours. He is diffidently in that transition stage between 1 and 2 naps, and we are just following his lead based on what time he gets up and if he starts acting like he needs a nap.

Liz: Peter is too funny.

Ash - sorry to hear about the baby blues already... Ferdi sounds like a gem.

Speaking of singing Teddy is into singing Old Mc Donald... he goes e-i-e-oooooo and then expects you to fill in the rest.

Ray started 3rd grade today!!! They sent them home w/ weekly planners... oh vey. I may need a class in how to help him use it.

Andi, we're in that transitional stage between 1 & 2 naps, as well! The book I've been reading says to expect the morning nap to completely disappear by 15 months... so I'm really working with Jonah to get as clost to that 15-month mark as possible because he still NEEDS 2 naps!

We had a nap schedule just like your girls, wake up, 2 hours later nap... but then a couple weeks ago he started fighting it. I figured he was just ready to drop the morning nap, so I went with it. Four days later he still hadn't adjusted, so we just pushed the schedule back, now he's up 3-3.5 hours before his first nap and his second nap got pushed a little more into the afternoon. Now it looks like this:

Wake-up: 6:30/7
Nap 1: 9:30/10
Nap 2: 1:30/2
Bedtime: 7:30

But Jonah is a fairly short napper. He usually sleeps about an hour in the morning and an hour and a half in the afternoon. Sometimes he flip-flops that, but he's pretty consistent... Hope that helps - hold on to those 2 naps as long as possible!

Oh my gosh, no morning nap by 15 months!! Ack. Teddy is 18 months and he totally still needs his morning nap, 2 hours after he gets up, 7 out of 8 times. He just gets so tired he starts falling down while trying to walk.

According to studies, 88% of children have dropped that morning nap... you're just lucky that Teddy is in the other 12%!

Hmmm, thanks for all the thoughts on naps, ladies. The girls will be 15 months next week, so I guess their timing is at least fairly normal. And knowing that some kids still take that morning nap at 18 months makes me feel like there's also no rush if they're not quite ready. I feel like they may be in-between stages... some days it seems like they could skip that morning nap, other days they still fall asleep right away. It's always short though, 45 minutes to an hour. The afternoon nap is between 1.5-2hrs, and they go to bed at 7pm. I think over this upcoming long weekend we'll give it a try and see what happens if we skip the morning nap but put them down earlier in the afternoon.

Thanks! And happy Labor Day weekend (to those of you here in the US!)

Andi - GL with the nap transition. Selin dropped her morning nap around 18 mos too if I recall correctly. It was like two was too much and one was not enough. Fun times! :-P

Hi ladies! The Sept. thread has been created. Have a wonderful long weekend!
