Alyssa and Christine- LOL about the pooping in the tub!!!
Right now Julia is crawling, and since it's a very hot summer she's mostly just in diapers, wich means her knees, had and feet get extremely dirty, you should see her bath water!!!!
Erica - So sorry to hear youre still dealing with PT issues but it is helpful to know for stage rest of us. How long until your kids were nap and night trained? I can live with needing pull-ups for nighttime but I have to get Selin nap trained by August in time for preschool. Even if she goes on the potty right before nap she still wakes up with a wet pull-up.
Alyssa - LOL about the tub poop incident! When we were in Turkey in 2011 I was taking a bath with Selin at a relatives house and didn't have my glasses on and saw a dark object floating at the other end of the tub. Yep, it was poop! Luckily I had a bowl in the tub and was able to fish it out but it totally grossed me out!
We are still dealing with accidents from Jonah. He's 4 1/2 !!! It is so frustrating. Every time we visit PA or someone visits us he regresses. He was having no accidents at all, and then we returned to Florida in the second week of January, and suddenly he is having accidents almost daily...pee and poop. For the last three days, he has been completely clean and dry, and then today, poop accident again. I try really, really hard to not be angry since I know that this is a maturity issue not an issue of disobedience, but it is HARD to stay calm when he was doing so great, and he is so big. Anyway...that's my PT rant.
Erica - So sorry to hear about your Grandma. (((HUGS)))
Alyssa - Selin started showing interest in sitting on the potty right before her 2nd birthday but she didn't always "go". Then DH went out of the country and she totally regressed, then showed interest a month or so later. When I was home with her last summer we did the "no diaper/run naked" thing and that got her off to a good start. Almost six months later we are finally 100% diaper free during the day and she's only in a pull up at sleeptimes, though I'd like to get her out of a pull up for naps in case she does start preschool this fall.
I agree with Mari not to try to PT if there's a big event coming up. For example your trip in March, you might want to wait until you're back, or try now but don't stress if he regresses during the trip. Every child is ready in their own time and learns differently. We keep our bathroom door open for the most part at home (when it's just the 3 of us home of course!) so I think that really helped Selin get comfortable with sitting on the potty. GL!
Alyssa, Fede never "showed" interest in PT. When we were close to 3yo I got fed up with changing diapers, and one saturday morning I said to him:
"no more diapers, if you want to pee or poop, please tell me or daddy and we will help." I expected to spend the next two weeks cleaning messes, but he handled it pretty well and only had three accidents the whole weekend, by the end of that week he was done.
I have to say though that he had a bad regression when we moved. I don't know if the new house made him insecure or what , but we spent most of december cleaning pee puddles and changing clothes. He never regressed on nº2, thankfully!
So I'd give it a try once you see him mature enough to understand what you expect of him. Also try to train him away of any major life change.
Hi ladies – nice to see this thread moving a bit faster!
Sandy – fun that David is in soccer! I can’t wait for Evan to start.
Erica – “Jack Sparrow” – too cute! I hope school is going well now, I can see how it would be hard to get on track after the holidays. I’m sorry that your grandma isn’t doing so well. Dementia can be so heartbreaking.
Liz – how horrendous! I hope you’re all feeling better now!
Christine – good luck choosing a preschool for Selin! It can be tough to decide, I’m sure. And that’s really cute about “Sassy”! You’ll have to tell us some stories about her :)
Mari – Sounds like Fede is being 3 :D Evan is the same way for some things – doesn’t want to do something until he knows he can do it “right”…or more efficiently than the old way (for example, he didn’t start walking a lot until he was faster at it than crawling). I wouldn’t be too worried about Julia’s separation anxiety as long as it doesn’t continue for too long or get worse somehow. Always good to talk to someone about it though if you’re worried.
AFM - I'm really, really hoping Evan will start showing an interest in potty training soon. When did it happen for your child(ren)? We ask him if he wants to sit on the potty and he'll say "no" and apparently he does the same at daycare. I'm not worried, but it would be nice to get him out of diapers before he's 3 (which isn't until October). Any tips?
