Baby Sling Warnings?

Has anyone else heard that the Consumer Product Safety Commission will be issuing a warning against baby slings, because they pose a danger of suffocation?

I also have the exact carrier they were talking about. I never used it with Ry, because when I put him in it, he screamed like I was torturing him, but I was saving it for #2. Into the trash it goes now!

I'm not sure I want to invest in another sling. We have a Moby wrap, but Ry hated being worn in anything (one of his many sensory issues), so that didn't get much use either. I think I'll wait until #2 gets here and see if s/he feels the same way.

This warning is really only for bag slings, good slings are fine, like the ones you can find online from WAHMs. It is just the bag sling that is a real danger.

That being said I never used a sling, I did use a pouch though for the first month or so.

Babyhawk doesn't have an infant insert that I am aware of, I know Beco has one, that I have used and like, it was nice for DD for a couple of months. I love Mei Tais for itty bitties they snuggle into them so nicely and look so comfy. The Ergo is suppose to be nice too, though it doesn't fit me well, so I don't own one. It isn't really useful for the first few months though because it is built for a slightly bigger baby. Then again that is what snuggly Mei Tais, Moby wraps and other wraps and pouches are for!

Thanks Joelle for my new sig

babies

Thank you for the sig Mary

I have an Ergo, which is a soft carrier, but it doesn't cover up the baby (well, the future baby, LOL) and I don't think it poses any risk for suffocation.

I have the exact sling mentioned and pictured. I sold it last year because we hardly ever used it. It felt weird to have the baby so enclosed with fabric and that made us uncomfortable.

I want to get a new carrier for the next baby and want to spend about $80 for a babyhawk. I've heard they have infant inserts but that they're not that great. I have considered getting something else for the first 3 months but will probably go with a moby wrap rather than a sling.
