Ash - That totally stinks! I hope you both feel better soon!! and I totally agree with you. When I had the flu (luckily Gabby wasn't sick) it was awful trying to feed her when I couldn't even get out of bed. I can't believe that Teddy is almost a year!! Seriously where does the time go.
Ruby - OMG - I too would have had a heart attack if they told me I was having twins!! I can't believe that. But glad they are doing well. Glad it went better on the sleeping KUP. and Awesome about the swimming. I want to do that with Gabby, but will probably wait until this summer to do it.
Alyssa - I was like you with Gabby, she would go down around 10 or 11, and then eventually it was 9 or 8 and then we moved it to 7 and now it's at 6:30. I don't wake her up unless she wants to wake up and eat...(See below).
Liz - That's so cute about the cats! Gabby also has discovered out dog and is totally in love with her. every time she walks by she reaches out for her or swings her head around for her. And Mac gets very agitated like "aren't you going to go get her" when Gabby cries and tries to find her. It's really cute. when we come home from daycare and I let Mac out she races upstairs to see if Gabby is in her car seat...sometimes a little too excited :)
Erin - OMG she is so cute! I love the 2nd picture!! and that smile.
I do use breast compressions, and even stop pumping after 20 minutes and massage for 5. Then I can pump and get another letdown. I've pretty much found all my major ducts, but the pump has a hard time emptying me. We're getting it figured out though. Today we had a weight check and the doctor told us he was no longer worried, that Peter was really making up for lost time with his extra 6oz a day.
Too cute about Maxim and Fig! DH still wants to keep Peter away from the cats, but I've been encouraging gentle pets. :)Sig by Lindy at SMFB!
I took Peter to the doctor today, and he STILL has one infected ear. He's been on two different antibiotics since Christmas, and is about to start a third. The drainage is causing a cough and some wheezing. The good news is that even though he had diarrhea for the full 10 days on Omnicef, he still gained 12oz in the last 2 weeks. Best guess is that within the next month, he'll be back on his growth curve. :)Sig by Lindy at SMFB!
Ruby - that's what we've decided to do. Last night he fell asleep at about 8pm so we just took him upstairs and put him to bed. He didn't wake up until about 4:30am then again at 7:30am for the day. Tonight though, he's eating as I type this, so we'll just play it by ear. I'm sorry the sleep thing isn't working great yet, but that last night was better. Yay for swimming! Evan and I are signed up for lessons in March.
Ash - I remember reading your posts here and on your blog during those first few months. It must have felt like you would NEVER get out of it! I think it's a great idea to get a nanny if your second is like that. I know Evan isn't quite like that, but he seems to cry a lot more than other babies we're around. Some days it seems like if he's awake, he's crying. It's nice to see how Teddy has come out of it and is a totally amazing baby now!
Jess - uggghhh...sorry things are going badly again with Gabby. Hopefully it's just the ear infection and she'll be better once that is all healed up.
Liz - so glad the doctor is happy with Peter's weight gain!! YAY!
Adrienne - no, I'm not on the Cutie Pie FB group, and I don't check in with the IV board either these days. I found my parenting style didn't line up with most people, plus I'm *trying* to cut back on my internet use these days.
I agree with Ella - this thread IS exploding! I'm sure I can't keep up with everyone, but let me try...
Ruby - that story totally scares the sh*t out of me, especially with twins running in my family! Had to LOL at Maxim's "emerging personality" with the kicking when he gets angry!
Adrienne - that sounds like quite a task! We had a very small party for Teddy's christening and took everyone out to a restaurant as that seemed so much easier :) Hope you'll have a wonderful day! BTW has any nickname for (little) James developed yet?
Ash - sorry to hear you're both sick, it's SO not fun. It's hard enough to deal with a sick baby when you're feeling ok, but when you're ill yourself it feels like torture. I loved the "comparison pics" of newborn Teddy vs. now-Teddy. I was just thinking I should do a new siggy for Teddy's birthday with pics of him as newborn, as a 1 year old and as a 2 year old.
Ella - how's life treating you? Hope you're not stressed out too much over school things anymore! I love reading all the updates about Eliza on your blog.
Alyssa - new job, I must have missed something! Congrats anyway! About daycare: Teddy started nursery at 9 months and while it was hard (for me) to start with and for him at around 1 year old, he now LOVES going and is really looking forward to playing with his friends on nursery day. I think children can benefit a LOT from it; and it's definitely easier when they start it at a young-ish age.
Liz - yay for Peter coming back up to his growth curve! One question for you: DH and I are currently discussing names and we both like Amyas/Amias, but can't agree on either spelling or pronunciation (AH-mee-as or a-MY-as). So just out of curiosity how did you chose Peter's MN's spelling, and which pronunciation do you use? Oh and how did you choose the name anyway, seeing as it's rather rare. DH and I got it from an Agatha Christie book (we're avid fans!).
AFM - I can't believe my little baby is nearly 2 now. This last year has definitely flown by, it was much quicker than the first year, ha ha. I think I'll get Teddy weighed/measured when he's 2, just out of curiosity as I'm not really worried about his growth or development. Last time I checked he was a little over 32lbs and 92cm/a little over 3 ft, so absolutely fine.
It's just a bit scary how he's turned into such a proper little child and how much he can do now and express himself. Some of my friends have already started looking at schools - aaah! I know it'll be 2 1/2 years yet before he goes to school but I bet that time will go quicker than expected too. I've already registered him with pre-school though as he could start that at 2 1/2, but I might leave it a bit later as their hours aren't really compatible with my work hours.
Recently Teddy has started singing songs and surprised me by how many he knows - he can do Baa Baa Black Sheep, Incy Wincy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and some others, all the way through. Although the lyrics come out really blurry - he will know some words and the rest is more what the words sound like :) It's too cute.
The only thing still going slow is his eating; he will self-feed finger foods that he likes, even using a spoon/fork for those, but they have to be in small bites. Other things like cereal or proper dinner he will have 2 spoons and then push it away, so I still do the majority feeding him. At least he eats fairly normal now and most vegetables and fruit. He has still got a passionate dislike for anything that's sweet - I swear he must be the only toddler who doesn't eat chocolate and when he says "cake", he refers to (bland, flavourless) rice cakes!
DH ran across Amias in a name book and really liked the meaning. I liked the look of the "i" spelling better than the "y," although the "y" may have made pronounciation easier for people. We use a-MY-as. Apparently the difference is the etemology. Our version is Hebrew for "Loves God." When pronounced AH-mee-as, it's Latin for "Love."
Also, to help with questions when people look at it, I always tell them it rhymes with Tobias. It seems to help with some of the questions.
I didn't realize it was in an Agatha Christie novel! That's too cool! :)Sig by Lindy at SMFB!
Sorry I have been reading but been
busy. Everyone had a snow day here except for me or at least it seems.
Since I work from home I don't get a snow day even if our building
closes which didn't even happen. We had a ton of ice on Monday and
Tuesday and some schools are still closed today because everything is
still covered in ice.
So when I think I"m making progress with TTC with DH days like today
he says are you sure you want another? David was being fussy and crying
and he said it bothers his head hearing him whine and cry. I know he
hates the newborn stage but I want one more and then he won't have to
worry about me bugging him again.
