BFing on Plane

Question for any BTDT mamas who have BF on an airplane. Really I just want to hear some success stories to help build my confidence. Logan and I will be flying to Kansas on Wednesday, just the two of us, and I would really like to BF to help keep him calm but I am very nervous about it. I really haven't spent too much time BFing in public and when I do I use a hooter hider. I just checked today and my flight is not full so it is very likely I will have an open seat next to me which relaxes me a little bit. I did some searching on the internet and sounds like it is very common for women to BF on a plane.
Does anyone have some experiences they want to share?
Thanks ladies!

I don't have any experience personally, but I have heard of and seen many people BFing on a plane. Even if you don't cover up there are ways to be discreet and it's not really anyone else's business IMO.
But I'll let the other BTDT's chime in because I know there are a lot of boardies who have been on flights with their babies.
I BF'ed Eliza on both flights to and from New Mexico in February, and it went really well. I did it for take off and landing (well, she was sleeping for one of the landings), which they say helps with clearing their ears. She did great, and I felt fine nursing - I didn't actually use a cover, and there was a guy in the seat next to me who I think was slightly weirded out. OH WELL, LOL!! But everyone else (like the grandma across the aisle from me) thought it was sweet and gave me lots of smiles.
If Logan likes the sling/wrap/carrier of any sort, definitely plan on using that a lot on the plane - for me, the Moby was a lifesaver - it made carrying all my stuff a lot easier, I was traveling alone, too.
I'm sure it will go fine - have a great time, and GL!
I have BFed Barrett on the majority of flights we've been on which is a lot (5 round trip I think). Nursing has worked great to get him to fall asleep. He actually isn't too bothered by the take-off and landing so he usually just has his pacifier for that. I find that it's a lot easier to be discreet while sitting in the window seat although the aisle seat is more entertaining for baby :) We were on one flight where there was a little girl about Barrett's age across the aisle from us, and her mom was nursing her too.
All my experiences have been positive - I'm sure the nursing will go great for you both and I hope the rest of the flight does too!
I've done it too! If there's a chance the hooter hider won't work for you (never did for us) I highly recommend wearing a nursing tank and a lossiesh fitting top. It makes it super easy to be discreet, and you don't have to worry about your belly hanging out.(not that it matters, but I tend to be mildy self conscious about my belly...)
You'll do great! The more people that NIP, the more people that will feel comfortable NIP, so I think it's an important/neat thing to do. Good luck on the flight!!
Ashley,
Not a BTDT since BF didn't work but just some encouraging stories.
I have a friend who just flew from Ca to Denver and then drove back into our home town in Kansas. She was terrified about flying with just her and her son. She said in the end she was worried for nothing. Liam did great on the plane and feeding him was easy.
On our flight from Little Rock back into Denver there was a lady that sat behind us with a 6 week old he he did great. She just covered herelf up when she needed to feed him and the guy next to her was really cool about it. She actually was very forward with everything and I think that helped the guy next to her. She used a tummy carrier on the plane and he slept almost the entire time.
When we flew with Simon he did great. The going down didn't seem to both him at all and we just fed him on the way up. We had lots of people compliment on how they didn't even know there was a baby on the plane. He did get a little restless on our last flight home. Course i think he was just ready to be home like mommy and daddy. On the plus side you don't have to deal with TSA being jerks about how much formula you want to take with you. The guy in LR was just a jerk to us.
Good luck!

Hey, don't worry everything will be fine! I just used a blanket and was calm about it and i'm sure no one noticed- the ones that did might have been thinking, look at that natural beautiful thing!... or not! I don't really care. It made everything so much easier.
Just make sure to wear a nursing top or something easy to nurse in. I had this double shirt combo thing that worked so well... just a nursing tank
Thank you all for the encouraging stories! I feel much more confidence about the trip tomorrow! I will definitely be wearing a nursing tank underneath another shirt. I basically live in nursing tanks these days :) I will take my hooter hider and I guess make a decision depending on the moment.
Thank you, thank you, thank you all again, this really made me feel better!
