Friday, March 11th I went in for my NST and that came back fine. The doctor and I decided that we would schedule an induction for Sunday morning at 7:30 am if the baby did not come before then, since she would be at the hospital then. I made it to Sunday morning and we got to the hospital right around 7:30. I signed a few papers and then they took me right back to a room. Around 8 o'clock my doctor came in and broke my water. My contractions started out at about 5 minutes apart, but they weren't very strong at all. I was walking around the L & D wing to try and get things moving along. The plan was to let me walk around until about noon and see if I made any progress. Before they broke my water I was at 5cm and 80% effaced. They let me walk around for 45 minutes and then put the baby on the monitor for 15 minutes, every hour, just to make sure that he was tolerating things okay. They checked me at 11 and I was 6cm and 90% effaced, so since I was making some progress they decided to let me keep walking, try using the birthing ball and not start the pitocin yet. My contractions were about 2-3 minutes apart at that time. They were starting to get more uncomfortable and harder to talk through. It was right around then that my MIL, FIL, and SIL got there. They were in the room for a little bit. We chatted as I was on the birthing ball. They checked me again at 1 and I was 8 cm and fully effaced at the point, so I was progressing well without any pitocin and with no pain meds. The contractions were getting really intense and I had little break in between them. I had maybe 30 seconds rest in between them before the next one started up. This is when I was really thinking about asking for some pain meds, but I really wanted to try and do it drug free again. It was around 1:45 and I started feeling quite a bit of pressure along with the contractions so they had the midwife come in and check me and there was only a tiny bit of cervix left. She had me push to see if that would get rid of the rest of it, and it did so they called the doctor to come on in. I pushed 5 or 6 times, maybe for around 20 minutes and Brycen Kevin was born at 2:21pm. He weighed 8lbs 12 oz and was 21 inches long.
We were supposed to be released from the hospital on March 15th but Brycen was breathing fast. A normal baby breathes between 40-60 times a minute. Well he was breathing anywhere between 75-110 times a minute so they decided to put him in the special care nursery to try and get him stable. They put in an IV so he was getting fluids since he couldn't BF because he could choke because of how fast that he was breathing at the point. I was pretty upset about it because he had a really good latch and BF was going so well at that point, I didn't want to mess things up. I've been pumping every time that he should eat.
