This is just a quick question I've been wondering about since we are starting the registering process.

I breasfeed/bottle feed and I use the advent. They aren't cheap but I think they are great bottles and he hardly spits up at all. I know everyone will give you their own opinion. You just have to do research and what you want in a bottle is pretty much how I made my decision.

Eloise has never taken a bottle, but Desmond liked Dr. Browns the few times we used them with him.

I've been pondering on the Soothie bottles since the bottles and pacifiers are the same nipple.

We used them for awhile for Desmond and he did like them. I liked the fact that the flow is very slow, so it seemed a lot more like breastfeeding.

I've used the Avent bottles and pacifiers and they've worked wonderfully. They are expensive, but worth it.

We've liked the Avent bottles with the wide mouth. Not that he's tried anything else, but we started bottles at 10 days and have never had any trouble going back and forth.

This is such a tricky decision because every baby is different! I think you'll just have to try one out to see if your little one likes it... and if not, then just start trying other brands!

Here's our experience... we started with the Avent bottles, she didn't like them and thus wouldn't take a bottle very well at first. Then we tried the Nuk nipple, then we tried the Dr. Brown's bottle...you get the picture! She HATED all bottles/nipples. Then recently we bought a Breast Flow bottle, and she seems to prefer that one. It is the most similar to the breast, I think - the base of the nipple is VERY wide and "requires both compression and suction" (as the company says!) - well, Eliza must like that because it is the only bottle she'll even think about taking.

I hated making this decision when I was registering! You can't really go wrong, just start with one and try it out, maybe she'll like the first one you try, you never know!

Kass,

I agree with the PPs that every baby is different and you may have to try a few different bottles. We are still working on getting Selin to take a bottle. The first two times she absolutely refused and the third time, I actually waited in our garage while DH fed her and she took the bottle that time. I got that suggestion from my La Leche League group. They also told me to try having DH give her the bottle when it's not necessarily feeding time so she wouldn't be ravenously hungry. I also plan to have my mom try giving her a bottle sometime soon so when I do go back to work in a few months, she will be used to having others give her a bottle.

So far we've only tried the bottle that came with my Medela pump. I have heard good things about Dr. Brown's as well.

I used the Advent bottle/cup system w/ DS. He had a bottle introduced around day 2... I had supply problems and he was tongue tied. Eventually we got the BFing down, but I did have to go back to work at 7 weeks PP... so it was really helpful to already have him used to bottles as well. I like the Advent because they have the nipples w/ the different flows for different ages/stages.

However, their manual breast pump sucked (at least 6 years ago).
