BTDT cosleeping question

It's starting to get cold in here this time of the year, so a few nights ago, I put the quilt on the bed again... the problem is that in order to cover myself well, I would have to cover Fede's little head, and a) I'm scared to suffocate him, and b) he hates it.
So now I sleep on the side with my chest uncovered, and it's not the best for me.
How do you do it?

Hey Mari! Good question. We co-sleep with Eliza, too, and we do a few things to keep the blankets away from her face...

We often have Eliza sleep a bit higher up in the bed than us (so, she sleeps closer to the head of the bed), that way we keep the blankets down lower so they aren't close to Eliza's head, but they are still covering DH and me. We also cover her (from about the waist down) with her own blanket in bed so I never worry about her being cold - though it would be hard for her to get cold when she's in bed with us, I think!

We also have a co-sleeper that sits next to our bed and that is where Eliza sleeps for about half the night. Have you thought about getting something like that for Fede? This is the one we have: http://www.armsreach.com/shop-3/the-mini-6/ This could be a good option for you (if Fede likes it!) so that you don't have to worry about accidentally covering him.

Also, I've gotten used to wearing a sweater or fleece zip-up to bed (over a nursing tank) so if/when Eliza IS right next to me, I can keep the blankets down near my waist and away from her face without getting cold.

Hope that helps!

Since it is just me and Eloise in the bed most nights, she actually slept a bit away from me so I was able to pull the covers over me and not her. I also like to let her sleep a little higher on the bed then me like Ella does. At least when she was little, now at almost 13 months I just don't worry about it much. I was also really good at sleeping on my side and angling the blanket to it was over me, but didn't hit her even with her snuggled into my back, but it is kind of hard to explain how I did it, sorry.

Well, I've never seen a cosleeper around here, and I could never convince DH to order it and pay in dollars when there is a nice chance that Fede won't like it.
But I really liked your idea about the sweater, it seems really easy and practical!!
Oh, and about the baby sleeping closer to the head board... how do you keep your pillow away from the baby's face?

I only use one pillow and since we have a king bed and when DH is there he also only uses 1 pillow, we make sure they are standard sized rather then king size, which gives a lot of room and space up by the top of the bed.

I have no useful answers, but just wanted to sympathize. I was never comfortable cosleeping with Patrick when he was little. When I did, I would put him up high on the bed near my head. But, I never slept well that way. Now that he's bigger and sturdier and I cuddle with him and don't worry so much about the blanket and it's better. But he and I are still both such restless sleepers that I only do it when other sleeping arrangements are worse.

Hi, there!

Newbie to the board jumping in...

when my LO was co-sleeping, we had this

First Years Close and Secure Sleeper

I was nice, it tucks under your mattress so that the bed didn't move around and he had his own blanket. It was nice because it has a teeny light that isn't too bright and great for when I needed to change a diaper or just watch him breathe :o)

Like PP said, we also slept with him closer to the headboard. I don't sleep with a pillow (DH does) so we were fine and as he got older and I was comfy with him just being (well that and he got too big after a few months) I slept on my side with him near me. We never had any issues.

HTH!
