A couple of the ladies on my EC have talked about their mucous plugs coming out. I'm curious to know what exactally does a mucous plug look like? I know that it doesn't have any real timing as to when baby will be born and that you may see it and you may not. What was the experiances ladies? One of them said something about some discharge of a yellow color.. which I have had on and off through the entire pregnancy and had at certain times every month, so I don't think thats it.

Stories please :) Thanks!

I had a lot of spotting and some sort of bloody EWCMish stuff in the days prior to going into labor. I'm not sure, but I think that may have been some of my mucous plug. I had yellowish discharge all the time though as well, so I don't think that was the mucous plug...

I had a bunch of discharge my entire pregnancy, my mucous plug didn't come out till I was in labor. Trust me you know when you lose it, most of the time. It is a lot bigger then just a little discharge, it also tends to be bloody. Mine came out when I was around 4 or 5 cm dilated and in the hospital, I actually felt the need to throw up, did and went to the bathroom to clean up and there it was. I actually threw up when my water broke as well, it was kind of weird, for both my mucous plug and my water breaking I threw up just as they popped out.

That being said a lot of people have theirs come out a couple of days to weeks before birth and some people don't have theirs come out till they are pushing.

Thanks Joelle for my new sig

I had a piece of mine come out...awhile prior to the induction...that period of time is a little hazy, lol. I think it was several days before, actually. It was a gob of, um, weird-looking sort of tan-colored sticky globby stuff. The rest of it didn't make its appearance until labor.

I don't recall ever noticing that I lost mine. I didn't have any sort of spotting while I was PG, so you would think I would have noticed if/when I lost it. But I didn't.

My water broke first, then hours later when we were at the hospital, when I was maybe 2 or 3 cm dilated, I went pee and saw that I had passed the mucus plug. It was like a big blob of pinkish jelly in the bottom of the bowl. What I have heard is that it will happen like that for some, and others never see it at all.

My plug came out 2 days before I went into labour. First it was only a little bit, but then the next time I used the loo the whole thing came out. Like others have said, it's like a big glob of jelly, and looked more or less like EWCM /creamy CM.

What really took me by surprise was the "bloody show" though - I thought it was more or less like the mucous plug, only with a bit of blood in - boy, was I wrong! (Sorry TMI following) it was endless amounts of bloody slime, which you continue to lose all throughout labour, or at least I did. I was quite shocked. I'd started to realise I was in proper labour and went to the loo, took my knickers down and half of it landed on the bathroom floor, which was really gross. Then I woke my DH up (it was 1.30am) and made him look at it to confirm if it was a bloody show or something different; you can imagine he was well pleased ;-)

I had discharge through out the majority of my pregnancy, but the two weeks prior to William being born, I started to loose my mucous plug. It came out in stringy chunks- mostly a yellowish color, a lot like snot. It only started to be pinkish in color the day before he was born when the rest of it came out. (sorry TMI)

Well, I never saw it with my other kids, but today I've been losing it in blobs! The yellow is normal PG discharge. What I'm having to day started out as a little brownish smear on my pantyliner & later there were globs of EWCM- like stuff with the brownish color to it. The last little blob had a redder color to it.
