I was a little overweight to begin with and I gained 35lbs during my PGcy. I highly recommended not going all out in terms of food and try to get some exercise daily. I tried to watch what I ate but if I was craving something, I went for it. I also walked nearly everyday but that is largely due to the fact that I take public transit to work and have to walk to/from the bus and train.
Within 2 weeks PP, I lost 25 of the 35lbs just from BFing. I've been struggling to lose the last 10 (and then some) because BFing causes me to be hungry all the time! I just weighed myself this morning and I'm down another 5lbs so still got the last 5 of the baby weight to go. I think I fit into my pre-pgcy clothes after 1 month but not comfortably. I had to go out and buy some fat pants but now those are big on me. I also had to buy a lot of new tops as most of my old ones are now too tight in the bust.
Like the others said, don't stress about it too much, esp. if you'll be BFing. I don't push myself to workout right now but I do try to watch what I eat.
With DS #1, I gained 39 lbs. I think when I came home from the hospital, I lost 12 lbs. Another 18 lbs. came off within 2 weeks, then the last stubborn 10 lbs. took a few months more.
With DS #2, I started out 10 lbs. heavier than I did before DS #1, but this time I only gained 33 lbs. Oddly, when I came home from the hospital, I only lost 4 lbs. (after having a 8lb11oz kid, LOL!) I was down 20 lbs. or so within the first month, and once again I had to fight to get the last 10 lbs off. At 3 1/2 months PP now, I'm 2 lbs away from my pre-preggo weight, but what counts to me is being able to wear all my pre-preggo pants, which I've been doing for over a month now.
I gained 50lbs in pregnancy and then lost 25lbs within the first two weeks or so.
1. How much weight did you lose you in the hospital? No idea, as they didn't weigh me there (or at any of my antenatal appts for that matter)
2. How much weight did you lose in the first month (including the birth)? -I lost all of my pregnancy weight
I weighed 125 when I got pregnant and I was 165 on the day I delivered. I didn't weigh myself until 1 week PP, and at that point I was down to 140. By 1 month PP I was down to 134. By 2 months PP I was back to 125. At 3 months PP I was 118 and I stayed there until I weaned Ry, at which point I jumped back up to 125.
It was 100% because of BFing, but more specifically because of BFing a baby with food allergies. I had to cut dairy and wheat from my diet right after Ry was born because he was reacting to them in my BM and those were 2 cornerstones of my diet at the time. I didn't have the energy or time to learn to eat right at that time (no sleep, colicky newborn hell, haha), so I had like 3 things I knew I could eat. I literally felt like I was starving to death and Ry was sucking all the nutrients out of me. Eventually he slept a little more and I did a little research and ate a little better, hehe.
I guess I'm the fat kid in the group ;)
I was really similar to Grace. I gained about 45 pounds and lost about 20 during delivery/birth. The rest I lost within about two months. I fit into all my old clothes by three months without having to do anything besides going for lots of walks with my LO and breastfeeding.
I definitely wouldn't worry about the weight loss until months after the baby has come, there are enough other things to worry and deal with!
I gained almost 40 pounds during my pregnancy
1. How much weight did you lose you in the hospital?I think between 15 and 20
2. How much weight did you lose in the first month (including the birth)?By my six week appointment I had lost over 30 pounds. My MW actually warned me not to lose weight too quickly! But I had a lot of water weight I gained at the end, and I had very little appetite when I first got home from the hospital. I did not even come close to fitting in my normal clothes at this point!
My weight loss really leveled off after the first month or so, and I hovered about 5 lbs above my starting weight until around 4 months postpartum, at which point DH started trying to lose weight so I ate healthier, and I started teaching dance again. I then dropped the last 5 lbs and a few additional pounds (and I ate a ton - yay BFing!) Those last few pounds were tough to lose but the first 35 were pretty effortless.
