BTDTs...cloth diaper storage

hi all! DH and i are in the process of picking a bedding set etc (still, lol) so that we can match the color and get the room painted, and we're trying to figure out which pieces we need and which we don't. can cloth daiper elements be stored in a diaper stacker, or do you think that a basket or something would be better? or maybe a drawer... it's kinda tough trying to anticipate what is going to be most convenient for things i have no experience with, lol. my mom used cloth diapers with us kids, but cloth diapers now are not what they were in the early '80s. she also told me to use diaper white in a wet diaper pail...from what i can tell, diaper white doesn't exist any more!

thanks in advance!

Carly - I'm not a BTDT but this is what we plan on doing with our cloth diapers.

Carly, I just use some plastic storage bins that I got from target to store my cloth dipes in. I think I have three of them, on for prefolds, one for covers and one for all my pockets, AIO's, and fitteds. I keep the storage bins in the shelves of my changing table. I think there are probably quite a few ways you can store them, a drawer is probably fine, or baskets, whatever they fit in really!

What kind of diapers are you planning to use? I recommend not getting all the diapers you'll use before baby comes, because you might change your mind about what you like once you get into it...

i'm not really sure what kind i'm going to want...i figured i'd get a smattering of everything and then collect more after figuring out what i liked best. in theory, i actually like the idea of prefolds and covers best, but who knows in practice.

We use prefolds with covers nearly all the time! I like them, cheap and easy.

You're probably not that interested, but I just got a "flip" diaper cover from the makers of bumgenius, and I really like it so far. It's a one size cover, and then it comes with a liner you can use, I guess you could also use it like a g-diaper in theory (they sell disposable liners for it), but it's really just a onesize cover with snaps, I just use it as a cover for prefolds. Anyway, you should check it out, they also have one called econobum that's just a cover and a prefold, but I guess that cover is not stretchy, and they only come in white... ok, done thread crashing ;-)

thread-crash all you want, i can use all the advice i can get! like i implied in my original post, the only IRL BTDT resource i have is my own mother, whose youngest child is me! she was asking me about diaper pins, lol. uh, most people don't pin diapers any more mom! i'll check out the flip cover and econobums (since we're not finding out tadpole's gender ahead of time, most of what we get ahead of time is probably going to be white anyway).

I got a flip cover in ribbit (green) and it's super cute, a very nice bright green! I try to buy all my diaper stuff gender neutral so I can use it for potential future children.

I really liked cloth diapers. I didn't find the AIOs very useful. I loved prefolds with the Bum Whisper covers...they mostly come in white. But my DH absolutely LOVED the pocket diapers. And I found caregivers were willing to use the pockets as well. We also found the pockets travelled well bc I could keep the liner in the pocket after use and store in the plastic/diaper section of our diaper bag with no problems. With the prefolds, the liner was so wet I didn't like putting in there (major clean up afterwards). I suppose I could have brought an extra plastic bag but I just stuck with pockets out of the house.

Enjoy your journey into cloth diapers. We stopped after 6 mos bc DS outgrew all the sizes and I couldn't find any mediums around here (I bought all mine second hand). Plus, I really wish I had gotten the toilet spray thingy for poohs bc as he got bigger it was more necessary ;-)

I have pockets and love them. I stack the diapers in the crib, bc it is used as a changing table (she sleeps with us)

Oh yeah, I just stacked my diapers at the end of the change table. I suppose a fancy basket would have been nicer, but I'm very lazy about interior decorating ;-)

We actually keep our diapers in the family room since that is where we are 90% of the time. When we aren't lazy and leaving them just lying around we put them in those cloth cube containers that they sell places like Target. If I was using a changing table I'd use basket, but I found that I only used the changing table for about 2 months with Desmond and never with Eloise. I do find them convenient when they are in the cube, but most of the time DH and I are just lazy and leave them in the bag that they are in from coming upstairs from the wash.
