I am starting to research Convertible Car Seats. I looked on carseatdata.org and found a few that were recommended for my vechile (I have a mazda 6). I had emailed some friends of mine to see what they had and one of my friends offered to sell me her car seat.
She has the Evenflo Triumph. It was bought 2 years ago, but has only been used for about 6 months. I was looking at Consumer Reports and it got a 70 out of 100, which was the highest they gave any of the car seats (including the britax's). But I did notice that it said the following: Some Evenflo Triumph Advance seats manufactured prior to 12/4/2008 exhibited cracking in simulated crash tests with a toddler-sized dummy in a rear-facing position. Although some of these cracks resulted in the shoulder belt leaving the seat's belt path, the seats still would have scored 'good' for crash protection. Evenflo has since modified the seats at issue and samples of the Triumph Advance seats manufactured from 12/4/2008 forward did not crack in our tests.
This has made me nervous, since hers was bought 2 years ago, it was before the 12/4/2008 mark and so I am wondering if it would be worth the deal she is giving me on it. I don't care how much I spend I want Gabby to be safe.
So I have some questions for you ladies
1. Would you buy a used car seat from a friend knowing that it wasn't in any accidents etc?
2. Would you buy this used car seat knowing the above information from consumer reports?
3. What did you look for in a convertible car seat when you had to buy one?
Thanks in advance!
