Clothing Questions

Hi ladies,

I have a few questions related to clothing- as I tend to get SO confused when I see the sizes in stores.

First off how long are babies really in the newborn size?

Second at 1-3 months what sizes were your (child)ren wearing?

Finally,

I still have plenty of time to plan but was just wondering- if I want to take my baby out in cold rainy weather (between about 40-50 degrees) what all do I need to have in terms of clothing?

March and April tend to be coldish and rainy here but I don't want to stay cooped up in the house...

However I don't want to buy a newborn jacket if it only lasts about a week or something...

It's all so confusing! LOL

Well, Ry wore the newborn size until he was almost 4 months old, but he's also a teensy guy. The point is that you never know. Everyone told me not to bother getting anything in the newborn size because babies grow out of it so quickly and we ended up having to make a Target run the night we came home from the hospital because all of his clothes were too big!

Newborn. He couldn't fill out the 3 month size till he was 4 months, and then he wore the 3 month size until he was 7 months and he's just now growing out of the 6 month clothes and into the 9 month size and he's 10 months!

Ry spent all winter in a onesie and socks with PJs over it and then a sweater or sweatjacket if we went outside, and he was fine (and it's much colder here). When it got really cold or snowy, we'd tuck blankets around him in the carrier. Of course, we didn't do a lot of outside time when he was really young. It was pretty much just the trip from the parking lot to the store that we had to worry about.

Thanks for all the info ladies!
So to sum it all up:)

-Stroller needs rain protection- but that is definitely a given here in Hamburg, most people don't drive for the daily shopping so all the strollers have them.

-Still buy newborn sizes! I am guessing that if people decide to give us clothes some will be newborn size, plus I have a lot of stuff from my childhood and from my mom so I probably won't add to it with more then a going home outfit.

-Don't worry if clothes are a bit too big.

-Babies don't need jackets. But if I find a very cute one I am allowed to buy it with te knowledge that I am buying it solely for me and not because it is neccesary LOL :D
