I am looking to sell my Chicco carrier and buy an Ergo instead.
That's awesome, Heather! I know I'll def. be checking the site daily for new deals. :-)
OMG Liz!! Thanks so much!! I just ordered the black one (all they had left). I'm taking a risk as they don't take returns and I haven't tried one on yet but I'm sure it will be fine. If not, they're in high demand in my area on CL so I'm sure I'd have no problem re-selling it.
Yay! I can't wait to try it out!! :-D
www.babysteals.com has the black Ergo with embroidery for $70.50 right now. It'll sell out fast though.
Thanks ladies for the input!
Sarah - Great idea about finding a baby wearing shop/meeting. I think it would probably be good for me to try on an Ergo before buying one. :-)
I have an ergo. It's the camel color. I have no idea which model (There is nothing special about it). The support is great. I really liked wearing Barrett on my front in it, but it's not real comfortable on my back. Even with all the straps tightened, I still feel like Barrett sits a little too low on me. I'm small but not terribly small (almost 5'2").
Anyway pros: has a pocket in front, DH will wear it, the support is really well spread out, fantastic for baby to nap in when on to go or sick (Barrett had a horrible cold at 9 months and the only way he would nap was in the Ergo)
Cons: Barrett likes to pull my hair, it doesn't fit as well as I would like it to (I tried it on, but not with Barrett in it - which was pretty pointless), it looks a lot more functional than stylish (not really a con for me but it might be for you)
I have an Ergo and it is an absolute godsend! I originally bought a sleepy wrap and then made my own k'tan-and both worked great until Evan got to be around 17 lbs-then I lucked out and bought my Ergo off of Babysteals.com when they offered it-and I'm so glad I did! It fits both me and my DH very well, and I can carry Evan (who is now just over 23 lbs!) for extended periods with no problem. The only con I have is that I can't wear Evan facing out the way I could with the k'tan/sleepywrap, but I also have not mastered the hip hold with it yet, so that may work as a substitution. I also am thinking about getting the newborn insert for our next one.
I have an organic Ergo (I think that color has been discontinued, which is why it was on babysteals-but it's black with embroidery)-mostly because babysteals only offered it or a pink one. It was only $79 (plus shipping), so if you decide to get one, keep an eye on babysteals. I've also seen them for around $100 on Amazon.HTH!
If you have a store by you, or a babywearing meeting somewhere nearby, I would probably go by and try on an Ergo and some other carriers to see what ones you like best. I tried an Ergo and it just didn't fit me right, there are a ton of carriers that do fit me right and that I love, but the Ergo ended up not being one of them. You can also probably get one used at thebabywearer if you want to go that route.
I really suggest a baby wearing meeting though so you can see what you would like to use and get some advice about how to use it. There are meetings all over, so there is probably one in your area.
That being said, the Ergo is a great carrier and a lot of people absolutely love it. It will be a big difference from the Chico carrier, and it will feel so much better when carrying Selin, even if you don't go and try it out first. It might take a few tries to get it feeling perfect though.
Hope that helps a little. I do love Soft Structured carriers, which is what an Ergo is, I just like a couple better then it because the fit me better.
