I know this question was for Christine, but since I'm also catholic and know a little FAM, I thought I could contribute. First, I know many Catholics won't agree with me (specially the very conservative), but I don't think using the pill makes you a bad catholic at all. The whole catholic moral issue around contraception is to "respect life" and avoid "promiscuity"... I won't even go into the second part, but as long as the respect for life goes, IMHO as long as you are not having abortions, you are OK. Personally I always thought that every couple and every stage in life has different needs as far as contraception goes. Second, FAM is not so hard to use. If you know the basics of charting, you are good to go. And if you want to be 100% safe, you can use some backup (withdrawal, condoms, spermicide, complete abstinence, etc...) until you feel you get the last effects of the pill out of your system and/or you have mastered the method.

Mari- Thanks for the reissurance. Since you don't live in the states, you probably aren't aware of the birth control debate going on between our government and the Catholic church. It's part of why DH and I have both felt this way recently. Basically they were going to require all employers even Catholic ones free birth control and sterilization to all employees. Well, since the Catholic church is against any birth control besides FAM, it has become a big debate. you can find the details on the internet if you do a search on it. I don't remember all the details. Well the president backed down and said now they don't have to and it's because it's an election year and he doesn't want to tick off the Catholics as they are a lot of them and potentially voters. Anyway I really don't agree with the whole you can't use hormonal birth control thing but I feel like sometimes I am going against what my faith is teaching by being on the pill. Although I've been having issues with it since I"m over 35 now and also my doctors said it can raise my blood pressure and I should really go off. So I was going to only be on it for a few more months anyway but I'm glad I'll be off it soon. I'm hoping it'll help the issues I've been having such as dryness and my lack of sex drive. I never had that when I was younger it just was the past 6 months or so.

However in the beginning I went on birth control because my periods were extremely heavy and it was the only thing that would help. However, as I got older it was for birth control and not a medical reason anymore.

Christine - sounds like Selin's party was a success. Would love to see some pics! Happy bday to her today!

Anna - happy 3rd bday to Teddy! Can't believe that boy is 3. I remember when you were newly expecting... crazy!!

Katie - UGH! What a creep - I'm so sorry :( But good for you for following a suspicion and looking into it. There is someone - someone WONDERFUL - out there for you (and for Z!).

Erica - glad the ped wasn't worried about Charlotte's weight. But it sounds like you've got a good plan for trying to increase it anyway... good for you for following your mama instincts. Hope the SNS isn't too annoying. Hoping the "hip click" turns out to be nothing.

Thanks for all the good luck wishes for TTC, ladies. My cycles are so freaking long that it is really anti-climactic to say "we're TTC"! It's like... yeah, in like 3 weeks, we'll be TTC, but that's just how it goes with me, I guess. I just hope we can get another sticky bean within the year.

Question - anyone else notice their toddler/LO being really sensitive to low blood sugar/hunger? I'm starting to realize that there is a real correlation between Eliza's tantrums and how hungry she is. She's honestly never been a big eater at meal times - I've always known her to need more like 5 small meals throughout the day than just 3 + snacks, but I've never been good at actually following through with that plan and I think she's getting too hungry between meals/snacks. It is becoming apparent that I need to manage that better for her - we've had some epic temper tantrums lately and every time I realize that it's been a while since she's eaten. Then, I get some peanut butter or something into her and she's like a different toddler. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?? Thanks!

Erica- It is great that she is gaining and the doctor wasn't worried, it sounds like you have a great plan for her as well. I hope the hip thing is nothing to worry about.

Ella- Teddy isn't that way (so far) but I totally was! It was a running joke between my mom and friends that if I started getting cranky and unreasonable (like a toddler LOL) that I probably just hand't eaten in awhile and needed to get my blood sugar back up. I also used to get really, really, really picky- like only one specific thing was what I was hungry for. This normally meant it was much too late and my mom would just shove some food into my mouth and I was a fine and sweet human being again. It didn't really go away for me until I was in my twenties and I still sometimes get that way if I don' t make sure to eat often enough, although I don't act like such a brat anymore LOL.

Christine- Happy birthday to Selin!

Sandy,

DH and I took a class as part of our pre-cana five years ago, and ironically, at that time, it was over my head but DH totally got it! Now I can't believe how easy it is. I am lucky that I have significant O pains and tons of CM when I'm Oing so I haven't been temping yet but might start once we officially start TTC. I too want to avoid a Christmas baby but would be ok with a NY's baby.

I will say that you have to have a strong will power to abstain during your fertile window, even when you're "in the moment", but other than that, I think it can work really well.

Since I work/have worked for the Catholic church, my BCP has never been covered so I was paying close to $30/month. I have different views on the issue of late and don't really want to get into it here but my beliefs are very similar to Mari's. :-)

OMG I can't believe how much this thread has exploded. I keep putting off reading them all because I figure I will just get things caught up ;) but I finally have made it through most of them.

On the Sleep thing: Gabby girl is up around 6:00 or before each morning. SOmetimes she sleeps until 6:30 but most of the time it's up at 6. I would LOVE for her to sleep until 6:30 or 7 since we don't leave the house until 7:30 to go to daycare and she eats breakfast at daycare. But she goes to bed between 6 and 7 everynight, so I can't ask her to sleep more than 12 hours. But if I push it past 7 then she gets up earlier.

Anna - Congrats on the house! I know how much you guys have wanted to move!! thats great!

Happy Birthday to two little ones!

Katie - Gabby broke through 5 teeth at once pretty much, 4 molars and 1 in front bottom (and she just broke through another one) so I feel your pain.

AFM - Just a quick update. Sorry I will try to update more with personals later. Our little one had her 18
