First PP cycle (AF)

I'm on day 39 of my first PP cycle and no sign of AF. I had my annual exam with my MW on Monday, they tested my urine and said I was not PG, but to test again in a week just to be sure.

I got my first PP AF on June 5th, had a light period and major cramping two weeks later, then had spotting two weeks after that. According to FF, my longest cycle (when I charted back in 2009) was 40 days. I've always had very regular, predictable cycles so I hope that nothing is majorly wrong with me and it's just my hormones trying to figure out what to do since I'm still BFing as well.

I finished up my last pack of the minipill about two weeks ago and we are doing FAM w/spermicide. Have only DTD once since I got AF last month, although I know it is possible to get PG on that one shot, but I'm still pretty sure that I'm not PG.

How was your first PP cycle? Was it longer or shorter than your pre-pgcy cycles?

I got AF back when Jonah was 15 months. My cycles were long (around 40 days) until I got pregnant when Jonah was 27 months. I'm glad I kept careful records because I was afraid that my midwife would insist that the baby was due several weeks earlier than my calculations if she used a 28 day cycle as the norm. Thankfully, the midwife trusted my charting!

As long as Selin is still nursing, the frequency of her feedings can change the timing of your ovulation. Last summer, when we were TTC #3, Jonah nursed a lot more when we were on vacation. I think he just needed the familiar comfort while being away from home. His nursing caused me to have a 50 day cycle. I was SURE I was PG! But no, just a very delayed O.

Erica - Thanks for sharing your experience - very reassuring! My MW told me that since I'm still BFing, my hormones are going to be out of whack for awhile. I'm not temping but entering CM/menses info into FF just so I have an idea of when I might be fertile. I actually had to put in that first light period at 2 weeks after AF as spotting otherwise

Christine- I am cutting and pasting my response to Adrienne since it answers your questions perfectly, too!

Looks like this is going to be a long cycle as I'm pretty sure I'm O'ing or about to O. Yesterday I had cramps and a backache and yesterday and today I've had lots of EWCM. Good thing I know what to look for or we'd have an oops! ;-)

I'm not sure! I was thinking this summer, but the time doesn't feel right with so many changes happening right now. Maybe I'll feel more confident when our house has sold and I don't have that hanging over my head... Now, I'm thinking about shooting for a late summer/fall baby! We will see!

Update: CD 51 and still no AF! I took a HPT this morning with FMU and it popped up negative right away. I also had a PG test at my MW's office exactly two weeks ago and it was negative as well.

Should I call my MW's office and tell them what's going on? My MW had said that if it still hadn't come back that she might have to put me on something to regulate my cycles. I'd rather not go on meds but am willing to take something herbal (assuming it won't interfere with BFing).

We haven't DTD in about 3 weeks since I have no idea where I am in my cycle and therefore don't know when I'm especially fertile. Last week I had lots of EWCM so assumed I was Oing.

Help!! What should I do?? I've never wanted AF to appear so badly. LOL!

Christine, this sounds really frustrating for you. It's rough not knowing what is going on with your body. How often is Selin nursing? Does she wake at night to nurse? When Fletcher was a baby, I had one period in May when he was about 9 months old, and I didn't get another until July. He still nursed frequently, keeping my hormone levels too high (or too low, depending on how you look at it) for a regular fertile cycle.

It is quite normal to have patches of almost-EWCM when your body hovers near the threshold for fertility.

I wouldn't take a medication just yet. This might just be your body's way of getting back to its normal state. But if you have any reason to believe that something is really wrong, follow that instinct. Good luck!

Hi Erica,

Selin nurses about 4-6x/day. She is STTN for the most part (only wakes when she's sick).

I'm not afraid something is really wrong as my MW did say that since I'm still nursing, my body will be confused about whether or not to ovulate.

I'm just unsure what to do as far as FAM since I can't tell when I'm fertile and we can't have an oops right now because of our insurance issue.

Thanks! :-)
