Sometimes our parents -- no matter how great they were when we were kids -- are less-than-wonderful grandparents. Maybe they slack off when they're watching our kids. Or they constantly criticize our parenting decisions. Or they're absentee -- not even visiting their grandchildren!

Have you had any issues like this, and how did you handle it?

Oh, they are good! My dad is specially cute to see... he has such a wonderful time with the baby, and he is usually a serious man, so it's fun. My mom loves him, but she has a really anxious personality, and the baby seems to pick up on that and acts crankier when he is around her. But they are both very loving grandparents! My ILs are also great grandparents, but since they live only 5 min. away, they are both more involved and more annoying... :)

David only gets to see his grandparents ( my parents) every couple of months since they live 5 hours away. And then my in laws live in Florida and that is a plane ride away. They haven't seen David since he was 3 weeks old. We are hoping to get down there in March to see them.

I feel bad the family can't get here to see him but it is the way it is. My in laws dont' have the money and my family they are taking care of my 94 year old grandmother so it is hard for them to get out here.

Mine are fabulous! They spoil him just enough but not too much and they are so affectionate with him and appreciative of his extreme uniqueness! FIL is the same way. MIL...tries...but she's so anxious about trying to learn to connect with him that I think it hampers their relationship. I have tried to tell her to just relax, but that's not in her nature, haha.

My parents are actually really great, it's my IL's that are more of a problem. They actually don't come and visit their grandbaby even though she is only a 1/2 hour away. They have seen her a bunch of times, but that is only because we have gone up to visit them. The last time they came down to see her was 2 months ago when she came home from the hospital....not sure why either, they visit my niece all the time who is 16 months.
