Car seat safety isn't such a big issue in Germany. We are required to use a car seat or booster until age 12, but finding seats which rear face past a year is almost impossible unless you import one from another European country, and I have never seen one with a chest strap like you have here- which I wish we had!

However people drive much less in Germany and in my opinion better and safer then in the U.S.A. so I imagine there are less accidents with children. In fact I just checked a WHO report "Mortality caused by road traffic injury", and Germany had a rate of 1.5 and 29 children between the ages of 0-4 killed in a year whereas the U.S. had a rate of 4.3 and 418 children.

I still think you can mention something one more time. I mean it seems strange to want to forward face such a small baby to me.

Hey gals, Whoever it was that was talking about the floride in the tooth paste. We took Simon to a ped dentist today and she asked about floride drops, we don't have floride in our water here. She said that if we have issues getting the floride drops (which we do since your not suppose to have anything with calcium in it for two hours on either side) to use a small amount of floride tooth paste in the evening since he will swallow some of that so he will get it from the tooth paste.

Prayers to your friends Cassie! That is so heartbreaking!

Christine, that is really frustrating. Maxim was also in his convertible seat at 6 months but still rear-facing of course. TBH, I think saying something just one more time is all you can really do. Its really clear they arent going to listen to you, unfortunately, but harping on them just wont help and will probably create really bad feelings. I know the safety of a child should come before bad feelings, but they will start to feel like you are stepping on them and their parenting decisions and even if you try to be as diplomatic as possible, it just looks like it wont work. Good luck!

Sara,

The cluster feeding is so hard! That was the hardest part for me to deal with when BFing a newborn.

Sandy, David is adorable! Thanks for sharing your pics in the other thread.

AFM,

Going slightly batty over here. Been waiting to hear about the job since Friday. They were supposed to have a decision but then emailed at 4pm on Friday saying they had a busy week and couldnt get together to make a decision. So today, I waited and my friend texted me saying that two of the 3 managers would not be there today either. So who the hell knows when I'll find out, but the mind-body stress connection about this joblessness is so real and palpable around here. TMI, but whatever I'm eating is running right through me the next day for half a day because of the stress. Ugh my god...and my emotional/boredom eating is out of control too. I NEED A JOB!!!!! Actually I just need to figure out if they'll do the right thing and hire me but I'm not holding out any hope after info I got from my friend....ugh, it feels so hopeless :(

Ruby, I know the feeling just on the other side. The job I have is slowly killing me. I have no idea when I'll hear back about the job I interviewed for when I was back home. He said he had to let the add run and do a couple more interviews. Hugs... I hope that you hear good news soon!

Christine, what a roller coster with Selin! That would be scary! I hope that she recovers quickly from all of that.

Christine, My heart goes to you and Selin... I'm so sorry she had to have that abcess drained... That is awful!!!!! I've been reading your posts about car seats, and I have to admit I'm guilty of some of it.... Around here, the law about car seat is basically "use one". I definitely turned Fede's car seat FF before he was 12 months, in retrospect, I was "covered" since he weighed more than 20 lbs. But still. I never knew it was so dangerous. Anyways. Your SIL lives in USA, so she should know better and I think this nailed it:

So you don't want your kid exposed to pet hair, yet you don't care that he's not properly restrained in a car?

Cassie - how horrible for your friend and her sister. So so sad. I hope you hear about the job soon and I really hope you get it. It would such a great change for you guys, I know how much you need that job!

Christine - oh how awful!! Poor Selin and poor mom :(. You guys have been through so much medical stuff, it's not fair! I'm so sorry, I know it must have been so sad to have to hold Selin down during surgery. But at least they didn't need to put her under and they could drain it the same day. KUP on how things go with her follow-up.

Ruby - ACK, how frustrating that they are leaving you hanging with news on the job. I have everything crossed for you!! Like Cassie, I know how much you want and need this job!

AFM - I'm really enjoying summer break with Eliza so far, we've kept very busy and are taking lots of trips to the parks and playgrounds in our area. Eliza is such a climber, she goes all over the playground equipment, even though I know it's totally not rated for kids under 2. We also signed up for Music Together class on Wednesday mornings. We went to a demo class last week and Eliza liked it a lot, and I figure it's a good thing to do to get out of the house and dance and sing together. And, the place is air-conditioned :) LOL. It was a bit overpriced, I think, but it's just for the summer. We'll go back to doing cheap/free things in the fall ;)
