Hey All,

Still haven't written my birth story, but I wanted to post a little update on how we're doing.

And mostly, we are doing good!

OUCH about the tear - I had a similar tear (did she say what degree the tear is?) and yeah... it's no fun sitting for a while.

Adrienne - Thanks for the update. I am glad to hear that things are going well. Hang in there (which I know you will) with the nursing. I was amazed at how much my nipples hurt at first and now i barely use the nipple cream because she is such a pro at it. I also had a tear (I don't think the same kind though) because she stuck her hand out and rolled to wave at everyone ;) the first few days were tough, but give yourself time. I have heard you can fill a condom with water and freeze it or soak a pad and freeze it help relieve the pain down there + Advil, advil advil.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Hugs on the BFing and tear pain! I don't really have any tips on the tear, as I had an episiotomy, and the healing was actually quick and not terribly painful (go figure). However, I have to agree with PP that at first, BFing HURTS no matter how good the latch is. When we finally did get Ry to latch after the week in the NICU, he did it properly, lip flared out, tongue over teeth, deep latch, but it still hurt like the dickens and my nipples got sore and cracked and even a little blistery (though that may have been the pump). Every time I nursed for the first week, it felt like I was pushing ground glass through my nipples, but I swear it did get better!

Rest up, sweetie, and yes, do call your MW re: the stitches. Wishing you quick healing and less painful BFing soon!

AHHH Congratulations again, Adrienne! And I agree with everyone else that you don't need to worry about the board! I'm sure we'll survive for a bit without you. Although I do enjoy updates! :) I hope BFing gets easier for you very quickly and your nipples don't become too sore. Ouch about the labial tear! Hopefully your midwife will have some suggestions and you are able to heal soon. Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

I'm probably repeating what others have said, but I don't have time to read all the posts right now.

Nipple pain at the beginning of the feeding is totally normal...no matter how great the latch is.

It's good to hear from you, Adrienne!

I've got no advice on nursing, since it didn't work for us for the first month. It never hurts to consult an LC though, if it's still really painful in a couple weeks.

As for the stitches pulling, have you tried sitting on a pillow? I had stitches in my butt in high school (long story), and the pillow really helps. I think they can also get stuck on pads and such which tugs on them and causes pain. Expect them to itch too as everything starts to heal. I'm lucky that all mine were on the inside of my vagina, so it wasn't uncomfortable to sit once all the swelling went down.

Hopefully you'll be feeling better by Thanksgiving! Just sit around and let everyone else do all the work! You'll be feeling (new) normal soon!

Adrienne, Fede had a textbook latch right from the start and it still hurt a little for the first minutes of BF... it only lasted for 2 or 3 weeks though. As far as the tearing, I had an episiotomy, and while it did hurt, it's amazing how fast it heals "down there", so I think by Thanksgiving you'll feel quite better!!!

I'll second what everybody else said about the BFing pain....it takes a bit to get used to even with the perfect latch.
