Ash Desmond started in mediums at 5 weeks give or take. It was kind of weird. Since we didn't really start cloth diapering till after he was born though I fortunately didn't have a ton of itty bitty diapers that he grew out of too quickly. On the other hand, Eloise fit in those itty bitty diapers for over 3 months, so the size of your children really can vary a lot. Eloise still doesn't weigh as much as Desmond did at 6 months, she is a bit taller then he was at 6 months, but not as tall as he was at 9 months yet.

As for clothes if he keeps growing as he is I really suggest against buying ahead. Desmond completely skipped the 12 month size for instance, at 5 months he went from 9 month clothes to 18 month clothes. On the plus side he hit 2T around 1 and stayed there till 2 when he moved up to 3T in shirts at least. Now at 3 he is in the 50th percentile for height and weight and in 4T shirts and 3T pants.

Yay for baby smiles, they are so cute and adorable! I am glad your Mom is coming to meet Theo, it should be nice to have her there.

Wow! This thread is crazy hard to keep up with. So here, for the first time in about 12 months, are my personals!!!!

Amy - May babies are the best! I highly recommend giving them a try ;) Congrats on Rob getting a job.

Elyse - William's pics are so cute. Was the high chair originally yours or DH's? My MIL still has DH's old high chair and it looks just like that - we use it whenever we visit (although we used to strap Barrett in it because he was not so good at sitting until about 9 months)

Sandy - We never sleep trained Barrett, and he went through a horrible sleep regression around 3.5 months - from sleeping 6-7 hours at a time to waking every 1-2 hours (Sometimes after only 45 minutes). We worked really hard to gently break his sleep associations; we tried to pull the pacifier out of his mouth before he actually fell asleep so he would learn that he can sleep without it, and I would pop him off once he got sleepy while nursing. It took a little while, but his sleep got better. If he's falling asleep while nursing, "The No-Cry Sleep Solution" book has a nice method that helps baby fall asleep just after nursing rather than while nursing. Also I think falling asleep at night is very different than going back to sleep after waking up. Barrett can very rarely fall asleep in his crib (and only if he wants to) but he almost always goes right back to sleep after nursing at night - sometimes he's asleep before he goes back in the crib and sometimes he's not - but it doesn't matter, he still goes back to sleep by himself. (David has gotten sooo big - he looks great! And the chewing sounds like teething to me)

Anna- I am so sorry about WTT indefinitely. That must be so frustrating. I hope your DH starts feeling secure enough soon to start TTC.

Lorien - Congrats on Patrick's first step and the new house! It sounds like a fantastic house and a fantastic project!

Cassie - Is your doctor concerned about how much Simon is spitting up? I think some babies are just like that and as long as you don't mind the laundry there isn't too much to worry about. I hope you find something that works! The flying should be easy - I've brought bottles of breastmilk, and sometimes it goes through an extra screening. They really are understanding when you are flying with an infant.

Grace - I don't think I've gotten a chance yet to say congratulations - I'm so excited for you (and definitely jealous)! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your trip to DC (even if it was exhausting)

Christine - Sorry to hear about the shots being tough on Selin (and you)! Barrett actually had an easier time with shots at his 4-month and 6-month appts, so it may not always be so bad.

Ash - Wow! Teddy is big! If you never use the small diapers much, they'll just get that much better of a resale price when you are done having babies ;) Enjoy your visit with your mom!

Kelly - I really hope things are going better with your DH. I know my DH never acknowledges all the work I do unless I complain to him but I feel like it doesn't mean as much then :P Have you heard of the book "The Five Love Languages"? The author basically has this theory that people express their love in different ways - some people feel loved when they get words of encouragement, others give gifts, others do things for someone they love, etc...So if you think of things that way, when your husband does things around the house that's his way of showing you that he loves you but it's not the 'language' you're speaking so it doesn't mean as much to you. Does that make any sense?

Sarah - Did Desmond express an interest in potty training or did you just decide to give it a go again? I know boys are notoriously tough to potty train, so I am just trying to prepare myself :)

Ella - Barrett is not co-sleeping but he is still nursing 1-2x a night and has been cutting back over the last three months. If Ella is already down to just 1-2x a night, she may night wean herself. But then with babies and sleep you never know...(I told DH we were cosleeping with the next one so I wouldn't have to get out of bed to nurse him/her)

Our update :)

Barrett had his birthday party on Sunday, and it was great. We had it at a park so we didn't have to clean the house ahead of time and there was plenty to keep the toddlers (and adults) busy. Barrett seemed to have fun and not be overwhelmed by all the people. His 12 month appt was on Monday, and he was 21 lbs 12 oz and 29.5" - so he's gone from being in the 75% percentile to being in the 25-50%, but that was to be expected considering my size :) He's doing great but is still pretty slow on the whole walking thing. He's been cruising a bit more lately but still not standing alone. I'm not worried since he's doing so well with everything else - I guess I'm just surprised since he crawled rather early I figured he'd be walking early too (apparently it doesn't work that way at all). He's getting to be so verbal - he babbles all the time and seems to understand a lot of what I say (he automatically waves if you say 'bye-bye' to him - even if he's upset that you're leaving - he'll start fussing or crying but still wave!) and he has a couple words he uses correctly although inconsistently.

AFM - I will be teaching full time for four weeks starting on May 17! I'm super excited to get to WOH for a little while but very nervous about how I am going to juggle everything.

Anyway here are some pics of my birthday boy!

Brita - happy belated birthday to Barrett! And oh my, he has grown! :-) I loved the photos. Did you make those turtle cakes? Barrett seems to have enjoyed them!

Sandy - I never did sleep training and always let Teddy fall asleep on the breast. i know it says everywhere that you shouldn't; but it seemed silly to me to wake up a sleeping baby. Now that he is no longer breastfed he still goes to sleep alright. Maybe David's just hit a phase - Teddy STTN from 10 weeks to about 4 months, then didn't, then STTN again from about 6 months.

Ash- seems like Theo is very much like Teddy in size! I remember Teddy was just over 14lbs at exactly 6 weeks. Hooray for your mum coming over - I bet she's dying to seeher grandson!

Lorien - hooray for Patrick's first step :-) He'll be off in no time. It's so cool that you've found a house! We're still looking, and I know how hard it is to find "the house" for you.

AFM - Thanks girls for all your support and kind comments. Yesterday, I wrote a letter (well, an email!) to DH explaining how I feel about it and how I see our finances and the impact a second child would have. I'm a lot better at writing these things than saying them (I tend to get all emotional/upset) and so far I haven't had a response from DH, but I'll approch the subject again this WE when we both have time.

Adrienne - thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately more work would not work for us. My boss asked me if I wanted to work another day recently. I did the math and because of more tax and childcare costs, working an extra full day would only net me about £30 a month! So it's not really worth it. --Your other suggestion - I am on the regular pill. I wouldn't want an "accident" though as I want DH to be on board for this; I want it to be HIS decision too (although I don't doubt he'd be happy once it'd happen). What's really annoying though: In March, when I was on antibiotics for a tonsilitis, DH wanted to DTD so I told him we'd have to use condoms as the antibiotics interfere with the pill. So he was like; "But isn't it time to start trying anyway?" - and I said to him no, we said we'd wait til June for the spacing blah blah blah. Now I could smack myself round the head for that!!

Ugh, sorry for the slight rant (again!). I hope I won't turn all miserable and grumpy! I feel all I do is moan and whinge - sorry, ladies!

So, to end on a positive note, we're looking at a house on Saturday that might suit us (and our budget); and there might also be one up for sale in our village (we're trying to approach the owner directly). So maybe at least that plan will go ahead! ;-)

Brita, he is adorable!!

Anna, I didn't mean you should make yourself have an oops, but it seems like no form of BC is fool-proof--there are at least 5 Moms-to-be on my EC who were on the pill. So hey, you never know!

Anna - good luck with the house tours this weekend, I hope you find something that fits your family and your budget ;) And I think it was a brilliant idea to email DH about your TTC concerns - I am the same way, I can become so emotional and worked up about these topics, and find I can write out my thoughts so much better - I sound much more coherent that way. I hope DH responds well to the email and sees your side of things! KUP!

Brita - this Languages of Love thing sounds very interesting (unfortunately I don't get time to read anymore - lol). It's funny that before Elena was born, I thought I had won the husband lottery or something - I thought it was FANTASTIC that DH did so much housework and I always joked with my friends that I didn't care that I hardly ever got flowers or romance because I had my dishes and laundry done for me. LOL. But now that Elena is here... I'm starting to think some romance, flowers, or encouraging words would be really nice. Maybe my "language" has changed!

And Happy Birthday Barrett! I can't believe so many of our WTTG babies are over 1 now! Super cute pictures BTW!

Gosh, I got so far behind, but I did read everyone's updates! It's so fun since everyone's babies are at different stages, to hear what they are all doing.

Tenley just started smiling at us in the last couple days although they are few and far between. She's a month old today! I can't believe how fast it's gone. She's still super cranky. The medicine for reflux did seem to be helping, but the last couple days she hasn't been happy unless she's being held again. I still haven't been able to get her to sleep on her own either which is so frustrating for me, I never had this problem with the other two and I'm not the co-sleeping type at all. I hate it, I'm constantly waking thinking I've smothered her. Anyway, I just wanted to check in, I will try to do better with personals next time!
