I remembered in thinking about my ridiculous non-baby related rant that we used to have a spot for things like that!

How about a Mommy check in?

Name (DH/SO Name):

What's your current occupation?

Tell us a work story (SAHM's, get creative!)

How are things with DH/SO?

Wow Christine, that's awesome that you found such a great replacement sitter! And it's still within walking distance? That's even better. Glad that issue is off of your shoulders now and you can relax and focus on looking for a FT job.

Mari - I'm a doctoral student in Family Science. My focus is on money management patterns in romantic couples. I'm either looking at being a professor or working with couples somehow... not quite sure yet. And of course now that I'm a mama that's all I really want to do :)

Thanks Ella! I'm still pinching myself, can't believe it either!

And I had no idea about your area of study. You could probably give some of us on here some great advice about managing money matters with our DHs! LOL :-)

Christine congrats on finding a sitter so quickly.

As for salaries for professors, I didn't realize they were so low, when DH was working at a small State college as a first year professor almost 10 years ago he was making 50k a year, and if he had his PHD rather then just his Master he would have been making 60k or more. He only taught for one year though since he didn't want to get stuck in academia. He is in Computer Science/Engineering though which might make a difference on salaries.

Kate, I hope you and DH figure out your working situation and plans for your next baby. We couldn't afford for me to work at this point with 3, even with 2 it would have been us basically just paying for daycare with my salary, now it would be us paying for the privilege of me working. Daycare around here is insane, the preschool Desmond and Eloise goes to in the fall offers full daycare as well, and it is $355 a week for a newborn - 2 year old, and they are a non-profit so there are places around here that are even more then that.

As for us, we're getting a new furnace. So not what we were planning on spending money on this summer, and if we had realized we needed to replace it we won't have bothered repairing the heat pump earlier this spring for 2k, since it is now going to be replaced. We got a really nice deal on a new system at least and my parent's are giving us almost half the cost to help out, can I mention I love my parents! It will be so nice to be in a house that is actually cool during the summer, and the reduction in our electric bill will cover our payments for the new system. If anyone knows terms we will be going from a 6-8 ream efficiency to a 15 ream efficiency, major upgrade! Oh and our furnace will no longer be 33 years old and flooding our basement when it is hot out because it can't deal with the humidity. And the house will be cooler then 83 on hot days when the thermostat is set to 72! Yeah other then the whole cost thing I am actually pretty thrilled about getting a new furnace and heat pump. I feel old being excited about getting a new AC.

Thank you for the sig Mary

Kate – Nice to have someone in the same DH work situation to relate to. ;-)

Sarah – Yay for a new furnace! And yay for awesome parents to help pay for new furnace!

Thanks everyone for the congrats on finding a sitter. I’m so glad it’s all done with so I can go on vacation this week and not worry about it. Now all I need is a benefits-eligible job and my life will actually be somewhat predictable this year instead of each month being a complete mystery, which does have its upsides, but drives me crazy as a planner!

So while i am excited about the new job i am also bummed. DH and i had planned on ttc sometime starting in Aug or later. Well 1. We won't even be together and 2. I dont think its fair for me to take a new job and get prego so fast. So now its looking like May of next year assuming DH has a job by then. Making Simon well over three by the time a lil brother or sister comes along. I know thats not a bad gap and will give me time to lose the stress weight but i am having major baby wants. So it makes me sad that we have to push it back.

Cassie - I am right there with you! I hit major baby fever this week and I keep telling myself that we'll hopefully be TTC by Selin's 2nd birthday and that a 3 year age gap isn't the end of the world. If it wasn't for this stupid insurance stuff, we would be TTC already. I have to keep reminding DH that it wouldn't look good for me to take a new job and get PG right away but he doesn't seem to care. Ugh.

I know how hard that baby fever can be! I was going crazy when we waited to try for Baby #1. I seemed to cry every time I saw a baby or pregnant woman. If it helps, we love the 3 year age gap and chose it on purpose. My sister and I are three years apart, and we have a really close relationship. Good luck figuring out the best time for your family to grow.

Thanks Erica! That happened to me too when we were WTT Selin. My therapist said I was depressed and DH kept pushing back the date. I find it ironic that now he was ready to TTC #2 before me. HA!
