So I am slightly confused. i started taking BC pills a few weeks ago. I didn't realize at first it was the mini pill the doctor prescribed for me. I think she thought that I was still breastfeeding, which I am not. I have had on PP period so far. i called today and asked if I should switch to a regular BC Pill and they nurse said no that the mini pill was fine, and was as effective as any other one would be. I have read conflicting things about it. I am definitely not ready for #3 yet. Thoughts?

I was on the minipill years ago because I am really sensitive to hormonal BC--I took it for 3 months and never had an oops or even a period during that time. I decided to go on a different pill (with a low constant dose of estrogen) though, because I would freak out and POAS each month, and wanted to have AF for my own sanity.

If you'd feel more comfortable going on a regular BC pill, then I would do that. No use being on something that makes you worry!

Cheryll, I'm really surprised about the nurse's advice. When I took the minipill the Dr. stressed the idea that once I got my first pp period the pill was no longer effective. Since you've had your pregnancies so close to eachother, and you don't fell ready for #3, I think it would be unwise to take any chances, and I think you should consider other BC options.

The mini pill is a progesterone only pill - see this website for details about a prog-only pill as opposed to a combined progesterone + estrogen pill: http://www.mckinley.illinois.edu/handouts/mini_pill.html

If it were me, I would get on a combined pill, Cheryl! :)

Cheryl - I agree with the others about getting on a different pill ASAP! I just found out today that my minipill is not giving me protection since Selin is naturally not nursing as often as before.

Btw, just curious why Brycen is not nursing? Maybe I missed your update on that?

My OB said to call when I stopped breastfeeding to go back on the regular pill. So, as soon as I couldn't breastfeed anymore as my milk started to dry up, I called her. If i were you I would get a regular pill too. Plus, with the mini you have to take it at the same time every day. The regular pill you have a 12 hour window. I had to set my cell phone timer to remember to take the mini.

Ella- Thanks for posting the link for me. it was quite informative.

Christine- I stopped BF Brycen when he was about 2 months ago. At that point we were doing about half BM and half Formula. Then all the sudden he would not drink the breastmilk. I was EP because his latch was bad from him being tongue tied and from his extended stay in the hospital when we weren't BF.

Thanks for all the advice. That is what I was thinking. i am not sure why the nurse told me differently. I am going to call and see if they can call me in a script for a combined pill. I'd love to have another baby at somepoint, but DH is still on the fence about it.

I become pregnant my second cycle on the mini pill (after getting AF after only 2 weeks) and I miscarried soon after. I will not be using it again, just condoms and the pull out method (with a condom on) until the twin's are a year old!
