Potty training

I didn't think I would be talking about this subject until after Selin turned two, but lately I've been wondering if she's ready to start potty training. A few reasons: She has become fascinated with toilets, she runs into the BR with me and watches me pee, and just this week she started saying 'pee pee' and grabbing her diaper.

Should I buy a small toilet that sits on the ground, or can I just get a small seat that goes on our regular toilet (and would be easier to cart around)? We have a very very small BR (and our only BR) so if I can eliminate having to put one more thing in there on the floor, I would prefer to do so.

BTDTs - What are your thoughts? I'm in no rush to potty train Selin but just curious if these are signs she might be ready?

Barrett had very similar signs at around 17 months. At that point we already had a potty (he had been pooping in the bath and would freak out if I tried to stick him on the toilet - so we got a little potty chair to stick him on if he started pooping during his bath), and one day I asked if he needed to use the potty, he said yes, and he went. I decided it was too much of a pain at that point to pursue potty training since he would only pee in the one potty at home so he had to be in diapers anyway, anytime we left the house. He still pees in the potty from time to time now, but only if I ask him. At some point in the next year when his constipation issues clear up, we'll try potty training again.

The seat may work, but you may need a step stool for Selin so a small toilet may take up about the same amount of room.

Since this has become a big thread, thought I would chime in with a blog one of my husband's buddies wrote about potty training.

That's what we did Sandy. I think pull ups are overpriced and kind of unnecessary, but I can see where they would be useful for a kiddo who is on their way to being potty trained but still has a lot of accidents, or something like that.

That is an interesting blog post Sandy:) Although I have to say that Teddy literally displays none of the signs of being ready so I am pretty happy that we do have diapers that are easy to use for a long time. I can't imagine having to potty train him now- it would be awful LOL
