P&PT for Selin

We had to rush Selin to the ER early this morning because she was having a terrible reaction to amoxicilin. Her face was swollen and she was covered head to toe with hives.

They gave her a steroid and an iV and she's been admitted for observation. We're waiting to see the dr and then we should know more. Hopefully she'll go home today.

Adrienne - I haven't tried that, but glad to hear you didn't have too diifficult of a time with it!

Yesterday, I only had to give Selin the Benadryl in the morning and she's remained rash-free ever since so I'm hoping the drug is out of her system now.

For some reason though, she decided to wake up at 1:30am this morning to play and screamed every time we put her back to bed. She finally conked out in our bed around 4:30am and then I moved her back to her crib. Don't know what that was all about! :-/

Have you ever tried expressing BM by hand? I did that today to put in my ears (I have an infection) and it was actually sort of easy, I had like 1/2 oz in like a minute. It took a few tries to figure it out but it worked great!

I'm so glad that things are looking better. Poor baby! I'm sure the whole experience was terrifying for you. I would have thought that an allergic reaction would start with the first dose, but I guess not!

You can simply hand express a bit of milk to put in Selin's ear.

Glad she is doing better. if you don't want to do BM then maybe you can put Garlic drops in her ears. I put about 2 to 3 drops per ear every couple of hours when she has an ear infection or is fussy at night - I totally should have done it last night, but it slipped my mind.

Thanks for the P&PT everyone, it really means a lot to me. :-)

Selin is still doing good. I took her to the ped this morning for a follow-up and she only had a few new outbreaks. Her right ear is also plugged up but they do not want to give her anything for that until the rash is all cleared up. She gets the steroid again tomorrow morning and I have to keep up with the Benadryl until the rash is completely gone. I hate having to drug her up because sometimes she is kind of out of it, but it's only temporary.

The ped said they could give her drops for her ears in lieu of an antibiotic and I was also thinking now might be a good time to try putting BM in her ears. But I am being lazy and do not feel like pumping since I HUTH almost 3 months ago. :-)

I told the ped I was nervous because we are leaving for our trip to Turkey in a little over a week and she said she should be in the clear by then but to make sure we know where the nearest doctor/hospital is. Thankfully, DH's town has all the modern comforts of home so that shouldn't be a problem.
