So last night, Selin slept from 9pm till 5am (woohoo!!)
1) No, unless you are struggling to keep your supply up. Enjoy the sleep! If you wake up because you are uncomfortable, pump enough to make yourself comfortable then stop. If you pump a lot at night, your body will keep making a lot at night. Your body will adjust to making less milk at night but still be able to make enough during the day.
2) I bought the ones that were on sale when I needed them (Lansinoh) They work fine, but I have nothing to compare them to - hopefully someone will help you out.
I never pumped overnight when William started sleeping longer stretches. I just pump after the first morning feed.
Storage bags- I have now tried 3 different ones. The Medela ones are nice because they can attach to the pump horn, but they only have 5oz sizes and I needed closer to 6oz sometimes more. I have used Lansinoh and Gerber. Both are only marked to 6 oz, but hold several ozs more than that. I liked the lansinoh and when I ran out bought more, but the seams leaked. I had bought gerber ones and liked them then couldn't find them and have just started using them again. They work just fine. When I pump directly into the bag, I just tape the top together over the pump horn. Also, lansinoh and gerber can be used instead of the drops-in for the playtex bottles- the opening is big enough to stretch the top and the nipple fits on securely.
I am so not a BTDT, but I plan on getting these:
It is like an ice-cube tray for BM, so you can freeze them in one-ounce "cubes"--and this tray has long thin "cubes" that fit through bottle openings.
I thought this was a nice "green" solution so you can throw a lot of the cubes together in larger freezer storage bags.
I agree, don't wake up to pump if she missed a night feeding unless you are having supply issues.
Thanks ladies for all the advice! Adrienne - What a neat idea about the ice cube trays!
If I could throw another sleep/feeding question out there so I don't have to start a new post...How long should I let Selin
Alyson & Sarah,
Thanks for the input! I went to a mom's group at the hospital today and the nurse told me the same thing so I feel better now. :-)
