So I'm 5 weeks postpartum yesterday, and the last two days I felt like I had increased CM (like from zero to a good amount of sticky/creamy), and then this morning I had a nice blob of what was unmistakably EWCM.

I would say that's what I have 4 months and no period but definitely a lot of EWCM. I think you are fine. Probably just you body getting back KUP

Adrienne, I wouldn't worry just yet... I've had "samples" of EWCM over the past months and no sign of my period yet. remember that EWCM is only an indication of a rise in estrogen levels (if I remember correctly), which is supposed to happen, since your hormones are adjusting to a new normal. I any case, you never know, so I would consider some form of BC unless you are fine with the idea of irish twins!! ;)

I did when Lucy was about 2 months old...I didn't get AF until she was 7 months. I exclusively breastfed until we started solids at 6 months.

How long ago did your lochia stop? For me, I bled varying amounts for a good 3 or 4 weeks and then I had a couple of weeks of heavy mucus discharge, which definitely resembled EWCM at times. I think it was just my system cleaning everything out and getting it back to normal.

As PP said, though, it is possible to get your fertility back quickly after giving birth even if you're EBF. I personally know a handful of women who did EBF and ended up pregnant within the first 6 months after Baby #1 was born. I think I ended up getting AF back when Ry was 6 or 7 months old, can't really remember at this point...but I know I got it back before I stopped BFing when he was 9 1/2 months old (though I was EPing, so it's possible that offers less protection against AF and pregnancy), because I had a HUGE dip in supply when it came back.

Anywho, hope AF holds off for a little longer for you, though!!!

I would put a quick call into your provider. There's a good chance that you just did too much over the last week which brought the bleeding back, and there's a chance AF returned (slim IMO); but there could be the outside possibility that you have some "remnants" from delivery that need to be cleaned out.

Okay, according to several people on my EC, there is something (hat some people get) called a "six week bleed", which is an annovulatory "period" that does a final cleaning out of the uterus.

I would bet that is leftover PP bleeding, Adrienne. I suppose it *could* be AF, but honestly I think that is highly unlikely at 5 weeks PP and you EBFing. I remember for me it would stop and start (with varying degrees of heaviness) and didn't really truly stop until 6 weeks PP. With you BFing James so often and being 5 weeks PP, I can't imagine it would be AF ... I would be shocked if it was.

(So I'm really hoping it isn't!!)
