Simon's Birth Story - Finally!

Sorry it has taken me so long to get this up. It is pretty long so if you make it through you are a trooper. The end is short partly because after 10 days and a lack of sleep and just nature I don't remember things nearly as well.

He goes. . .

You know about my appointment and the due date changes.

Thursday morning my mom asked if I was interested in going to Chinese food for lunch. Partly because she thought it sounded good and partly because that was the one thing on the list of “might induce labor” that we had not tried. So we decided mom and I would go to lunch and then go walking around. Matt decided he would stay home and do some things around there before having to go back to work that night.

Mom and I went and had Chinese. In the same center as where lunch was we had a Joann’s fabrics. Mom and I decided we would walk around in there. While inside we picked up some more fabric that was going to be his curtain and I selected some fabrics to make a blanket for Simon. I had not gotten around to it at that point and since it seemed like it would be a while longer I figured I had some time to work on it. Mom and I also walked around the mall for a little while before heading home.

Once we got home we got the curtains sewn together and put up in his room. This did require pulling a few things out of the bottom of Simon’s closet since that is where all my craft stuff now is. I got all the squares cut out for his quilt and we pinned the first round of rows together after we had dinner. By this time it was after 9pm. Matt and I decided we would go take a bath together and then head to bed. We were in bed by around 11pm and I was asleep shortly after that.

Around 1:30am I woke up and went to the bathroom. I crawled back into bed and realized I was having some pains down by my pelvis. I had had a few a couple nights earlier so I figured they would go away. I lay in bed only they didn’t go away. I also had to make a couple more trips to the bathroom. My body was prepping for baby. At roughly 2:45am Matt asked me how I was doing; I told him I was having contractions. After the words sunk in he rolled over. We waited another 30 minutes and decided we would time them. So he went to the living room and got his laptop. He had book marked the contraction counter online so he went to get it. Contractions were between 5-7 minutes apart on average and anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. My OB said to come in when the contractions were roughly 5 minutes apart and painful. Well we had the 5 minutes but I wasn’t sure how painful. So around 3:30 we called L&D. The RN said we could come in whenever we felt. If I felt like I was laboring ok at home I could stay there or I could come in and see where I was. She said she would pull my chart and have it waiting for when we got there.

At roughly 6am I broke down and decided we would go to the hospital. My contractions were 1-3 minutes apart and 45-90 seconds long. Matt, my mom and I got everything loaded and headed that way. When we got there and got changed they hooked me up to the monitors and checked to see how far along I was. I was sitting at 4-5cm.

Aw, sounds like the little guy knew what he was doing all along. CONGRATS!!! Too bad he didn't wait a few more hours, then he'd share his bday with my DS :) But I'm glad that you had such a good experience and everything went well.

"Later on when the lab tech came in to take some blood from Simon’s heel he gave him the finger."

lol, learning bad habits already!!! sounds like your birth went well, even if you needed some interventions and had some tearing. congratulations again cassie! i guess the chinese food and the assumption that you had plenty of time did the trick! (one more day and simon would be sharing his bday with my DH, lol.) thanks for sharing your story!

Cassie I couldn't stop reading. It doesn't matter how long a birth story is when you are reading about someone's journey that you have been on for a long time. I am so glad you shared it and so happy that you finally have your little guy in your arms.

I cannot wait until I get that moment. Hope all is well with breastfeeding!
