Sleeping at Night

Hi ladies!

I have a question about when Evan should be sleeping at night. First though is what we're doing now:

He's feeding 7 times a day, and his last two feeds are between 6-7pm and between 9-10pm. We put him in his bassinet in our room after his last feed and he typically goes to sleep very quickly. He then wakes up sometime around 4am for a feed, and then sleeps until around 8am and then is up for the day. He naps throughout the day/evening - sometimes it's a bunch of shorter (30 minute) naps, sometimes he has a couple longer ones (1-2 hours each).

I feel like what we're doing now is working for all of us, I'm wondering if we should be putting him to bed in his bassinet earlier at night, say after his second last feed (6-7pm)? Is that necessary if he is getting enough sleep on his current "schedule"?

I think at 2 months, what you are doing is perfect. When he gets closer to 3 or 4 months and putting him to bed in his room (if that's what you're doing) you might want to play with an earlier bedtime.

I'd echo what Sarah said - if it's working, keep doing it! You'll know when it's time for a change in schedule because... well, you'll just know. It's amazing, but babies really do tell you when they need a change - what you're doing now will stop working so well and then you'll figure out something that will at that point :) You're doing great, mama!

Your schedule reminds me a lot of fede's during his first months of life. I agree with the girls... "if it isn't broken, don't fix it!!"

I agree with everyone else, too.

James is on a nearly identical schedule.

Thanks everyone! I guess I was just second guessing things, but I should really just trust my mommy gut! I knew it was working, but just wanted confirmation that I wasn't doing anything wrong. Will I ever feel like I know what I'm doing? LOL!

whatever works. tad had a 9-10pm bedtime right through about 7 months. it's still around then when i'm visiting my friends because they don't have a guest room...i sleep on the couch and he sleeping in the PNP right there in the living room, and since the adults don't got to bed at 8pm it's distracting to him. around 8mo i started getting him to go to bed around 8pm, and now he does it consistently, and on days that he hasn't napped well or if he's recovering from a cold or something he might be ready by 7:30.

at 2mo though, don't sweat it.

Alyssa - I agree with what all the others said. I just will say this, that's what we did for the first few months and then the past 2 or 3 weeks (really since Christmas) we started the earlier bed time and it's working much better for us. When I was putting her down later (after her 8 or 9pm feeding) she was over tired. Just do what works and when it stops working (if it stops working) change it up and find what works for you.
