This is quite a ways off for us, but I was wondering when and how most of you have (or plan to) started solids with your baby. What was the first thing they ate, how old, etc. We had a nutrition expert come and talk to my new moms group today and it got me thinking about it....

We started Ry on solids when he was 5 1/2 months old. He seemed really interested in our food, so I felt like it was time. The first thing we gave him was avocado, which wasn't a huge hit. Yams were next and he loved those, still does. Then came baby oatmeal. At first it was just a couple of teaspoons of one food twice a day, but now he's eating a proper breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

"MIL is borderline obsessed with Barrett starting solid foods. She'll talk to him about how he wants some of what she's eating, how he'll be starting to eat food soon, etc."

Grandmas can be so odd sometimes. Keep in mind that the time she was having babies they pushed formula feeding (OK maybe not, they did in the 70's but I realize not everyone is my age), and until the last several years were saying to start baby on cereal at 3-4 months! It's a different world. I suppose you could always chime back in with, "well, when you're ready honey. LOL! "
