Surgery FINALLY Scheduled!

Cross-posted to TTC Grads

At long last, we have Ry's hernia and hypospadias repair surgeries scheduled, and only 10 short months after our initial consultation with the urologist! Ah specialists...they move at the speed of dark, haha.

So, they're going to do both at once as well as a scope to look at his trachea to see if there is any damage there or if he just has laryngomalacea (which we know he has) on September 21. He's supposed to be able to go home later that day, so hopefully everything goes well.

I'm nervous for my baby, but I'm also just so relieved that this darn thing is finally scheduled. It's been hanging over our heads since he was born!

It will be stressful, but also it'll be so great to have it taken care of. I hope that everything goes wonderfully!

I'm lurking from ttc after mc, however, I wanted to wish you luck with your son's surgery. My son had hypospadias/chordee repair when he was 6 months old and it was tough. He is good as new now though and I am so happy we got it over with when he was little!!!!

I'm not going to lie, the recovery is really hard and it looks terrible at first but it heals up just fine. Go with a pediatric anesthesiologist and they will TOTALLY put your mind at ease regarding the anesthesia.

Just wondering....were you on prometrium during pregnancy? I took this and my urologist said it causes hypospadias and that ob's over prescribe it. The reason I'm asking is b/c I am ttc again and b/c of another mc I am considering prometrium again.....

GL!

Thank you so much for your reply! It's nice to hear a BTDT story. I don't know anyone IRL who's gone through this, so I really appreciate it!

I wasn't on prometrium or any other drugs at all during TTC or my pregnancy. My son's case is really mild, but he has some other structural abnormalities: nystagmus and laryngomalacea. The ped and the army of specialists we've been to haven't been able to find any underlying cause for these conditions, so we pretty much think he just pulled a set of unlucky numbers in the genetic lottery. However, he's a happy and very healthy little boy (never been sick in 11 months!), and he's developing physically and mentally on schedule, so once we're past the surgery, we should be out of the woods for awhile.

Thanks for the advice on the pediatric anesthesiologist. We are going to the Children's Hospital, so no problem there. We went to another hospital for one of his other procedures and hated the way the staff seemed so inexperienced in dealing with children, so we made sure to go to Children's for this.

Wow, this is longer than I intended! Anyway, thank you very much for sharing your story with me!
