What words is your toddler saying? New ones every day--he imitates everything! His reliable words, though, are: Mommy, Daddy, doggy, puppy, kitty, keys, baby, ball, nest, bath, banana, bottle, fish, hush, brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, up, hi
Any new behaviors or new skills that you are noticing? WALKING!!! He is a relatively late walker and has been in physical therapy for low muscle tone because we had IUGR and he was
OMG, let's see. Kaeden says mama, daddy, here, uhoh, piggys, puppy, kitty, bubby, baba, hi, bye, thank you, please, naughty, acky, boo, gramma, baby, peepee, (sorry, you asked!), love you, probably more, but I can't remember.
If you have an older kid, have they said anything funny recently? I'd tell you, but I haven't figured it all out yet. He is constantly telling me stories, but I haven't quite interpretted all of them yet. But they are adorable!
Any new behaviors or new skills that you are noticing? He will copy me, as in, arms up, touch your toes, touch your head, touch your belly, touch your butt, clap your hands, brush your hands. If I do the actions, and say what to do, he will do the actions. He actually showed me that he wanted milk, not water the other morning. He led me to where the milk was and pointed, after I tried to give him water.
What is your favorite thing about toddlerhood (or childhood) vs. infancy? He is seriously becoming such a little person! The simple fact that he can express himself both with kisses and hugs, and the pointing, and yes, even the attitude is so cool. I am impressed with how much he is a miniature of my husband every day. Although I miss the baby stage, (thus, the baby fever), I love every minute of the toddler stage.
BTW, Anna, I wanted to tell you congratulations on TTC your second!
Special thanks to Katie (Hubbswifey) for my beautiful siggy!
What words is your baby/toddler saying? Lots and lots, but my favorites are "Alex's words," that sound nothing at all like the real words, but DH and I know exactly what he's saying. For example, "bee-bah"= ketchup, "Fee-fun"= Ethan (baby brother), "wee-hull"= whistle
Any new behaviors or new skills that you are noticing? He's becoming more independent, to where if I try to help him with something, he'll brush my hand away, and say, "No, mama."
What is your favorite thing about toddlerhood (or childhood) vs. infancy? I find myself everyday just staring at Alex... how he looks now compared to as a baby, his mannerisms and expressions, etc. It is such a joy to think of what a big boy he is now, such a little person and unique in his own way. I think back to all the ages and stages he went through to get to where he is now, and he's only 2 1/2!
What words is your baby/toddler saying? Not too many, really. DH and I were having this discussion earlier - I thought she was going to be really ahead with language because she was hitting all the early month "sound" milestones really early. She certainly hasn't levelled off though - she is extremely vocal and is coming up with new babbles and word-like sounds all the time, she just isn't really using real words yet. She does fairly consistently say "ca!" when she sees the cat, and she does say "mama" and "dada" but still not specifically to us. I'm 99% sure that she says "what's that?" ("wa da?"), which is really cute. I sure hope she learns some words soon though because I'm getting really tired of crying still
How are my toddlers? Both my toddlers are doing well, though I guess Desmond is technically a preschooler now.
What words is your baby/toddler saying? Eloise has over 200 words now and she is adding more daily. It is really cute when she says a long3 or 3 syllable word though. Her favorite words tend to be cheese, dog, nurse, diaper, ma, dada, dez, back and pop.
If you have an older kid, have they said anything funny recently? Probably, do I remember it, not really. Both of them amuse me with what they say, though Desmond is more amusing since he says more. Desmond is enjoying having his "I have pensis, Ise not have penis, Ise has vulva." discussions at least 2 times a week. He also likes to say, "ella ise" in a very exasperated tone of voice.
Any new behaviors or new skills that you are noticing? Desmond is going to bed without nursing! Which means he only nurses in the mornings now. He has also mainly stopped asking about nursing during the day! This is huge to me. While I am not going to wean him, having him wean on his own soonish would not bother me much at all.
Eloise has such a little personality. She is really big into talking right now at least when me or Dan is there, she is much more shy around other people. She also likes to cry when her brother is around. To be fair he does push her down semi frequently, but occasionally I think she cries when he is right there just to get him in trouble even when he isn't doing anything.
What is your favorite thing about toddlerhood (or childhood) vs. infancy? The way that their personalities really start coming to the forefront. Plus it is easier to do fun things with them as they get older. Both Eloise and Desmond love going swimming and we can stay in the pool a lot longer this summer then we were able to last summer. It is also fun watching them grow and develop new skills and become at least a bit more independent.
WTT? yup, sometime mid-2011, aiming for about 3 years apart.
Give us an update on each kid!! Patrick is awesome. Getting the hang of walking and starting to really become a little person. He's not really talking yet, but you can see him starting to put it all together. We've been going to the beach and he enjoys playing in the water - I should post some pics. He's on the move all the time and becoming quite the climber (and ending up with lots of bumps and bruises).
Give us an update on you (and DH)! Ohhh....we bought this house and about 3/4 way through a major renovation. Thankfully we're still living in our apartment in the meantime. But I'm completely stressed out and have no free time. DH has been traveling a ton this summer. Life is just totally crazy. I can't wait for the fall and getting settled once and for all.
I just wanted to check in. I read all your posts and love hearing about all the toddlers. Hopefully I'll have time to respond and post more eventually!
Okay so Eloise has slept through the night two nights running now. It seems if she sleeps with Dan instead of me she doesn't wake in the middle of the night to nurse. Which makes night weaning so much easier. Since it basically means she is. Of course that involves her not waking in the middle of the night again, so we'll see. The only downside seems to be she is waking up at 6am with Dan when he gets up for work! I think I am going to have to wander over to her room around 5:30 so I can nurse her then and hopefully that will let her stay asleep until 8 or 9 am instead.
Since she nursed for over 25 minutes this morning when she woke up, I figure she is starving when she wakes at 6, since she has gone from around 8pm till 6am without eating.
That being said DH and I are enjoying our kid free time with both small ones going to bed by 9pm or so, which means we have 2 or 3 hours in the evening kid free! Now we just need to set up at least one of those nights as a cleaning night, since so far we have used the free time to relax, which is really nice as well, but the house doesn't appreciate it!
What words is your baby/toddler saying? Barrett's favorite is "moemoemoemoemoe" which sort of means more, but really just means he wants something to eat. Other words include "ca" (cat), "bah" (ball), dada, mama, byebyebyebye, and juice (he said this tonight- I was pretty impressed). Barrett is babbling a lot but most of it is just nonsense words still.
Any new behaviors or new skills that you are noticing? Barrett is night weaned and is (sometimes) sleeping through the night !!!!!! He also signed "more" tonight- it's his first real sign (he can wave bye). The separation anxiety seems to be easing up a little, although Barrett has really turned into a shy little guy (a lot like his daddy). And he is slowly progressing on the walking; he can stand for a good 5 seconds by himself and has taken single steps, but not quite walking on his own yet.
What is your favorite thing about toddlerhood (or childhood) vs. infancy? The enthusiasm! He gets so excited about so many things - its great.
Eloise is night weaned, it was a lot easier then expected. We were planning on starting working on it this past weekend, but it happened earlier last week. Starting on Monday we changed from me sleeping with her to Dan sleeping with her. She doesn't wake up in the middle of the night if Dan is there. I do still need to get up between 5 and 6am and nurse her then or she wakes for the day when DH gets up at 6, but getting rid of the midnight and 2:30am feedings makes that not a huge deal.
Desmond is also going to bed by himself! When DH moved to sleep with Eloise, we also made him the one to put her to bed so he lies with her as she falls asleep. So we decided to change how Desmond goes to sleep, DH use to lie with him till he fell asleep, which often took 30+ minutes, because well someone in bed to play with! So now I take Desmond to his bed after stories, read him one more book and then let him nurse for 5 minutes or so. Then I leave his room and he is asleep within 5 minutes give or take. It is quite nice.
In other news Desmond loves his camp, we actually signed him up for the session this week because he wanted to go more, so he'll go Wednesday and Thursday this week, and then Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. He is doing great swimming, he came up for air a couple of times while swimming yesterday.
He also had fun when we went the Natural History Museum on Saturday. Which was fun for all of us, well except for the 10 minutes or so when he disappeared and I had lost him. He was running ahead of me and I couldn't catch him and I turned a corner and he was gone. Fortunately the guard at the Hope Diamond grabbed him when he ran back past him, so he wasn't missing long. He did end up in the stroller for awhile after that though. He liked seeing the dinosaurs though and loved the Ocean area, he loved looking at the small coral reef exhibit with Nemo fish. He also loved the bug section and seeing the butterflies through the window, we didn't pay for the butterfly pavilion, and he loved watching the bees go in and out of their hive.
Eloise had fun at the museum as well. She has also been doing the cutest thing recently. She comes up and tells you "dance" and then dances! It is so cute. She is also coming downstairs on her own in the mornings rather then waiting for me to realize she is awake and get her.
We are all doing great here and having a busy and fun summer so far.
