Hi All! I just wanted to check in quickly. I did a long term substitute teaching position starting in the middle of May through last week and couldn't get on ivillage at school so I haven't been around much. Right now I'm teaching dance camp in the morning but hopefully I will be around a little more.
Barrett has been doing pretty well adjusting to all these changes - he went to a home daycare while I taught at the school and is staying with a friend (with her own toddler) this week and next while I teach dance. He has started to get serious about walking and is starting to walk around holding my hands but no steps on his own yet. I think the two things he excels the most at are getting teeth (he pretty much has all of them poking through except his last four molars!) and flirting - the boy loves to make people smile! Other than that no big changes. I think I'm ready to night wean him - if you have any good advice, I'd welcome it (I'm going to go start a thread about that I think)
I loved reading your updates, and Anna, the pictures are adorable!!!!!
I just wanted to let you know that I updated the front page based on the feedback I got on the birthday roll call in the Chit-Chat section.
If you haven't checked in yet on that birthday roll call, please do so, so I can add your child's ticker to the front page and generally keep track of things. ;-) Anyone that checks in between now and July (wow seriously July? Ok sorry) 1st, I will add you when I redo the pages for July.
Hope all is well with everyone!
Hello all! Sorry I've been MIA! Elena has been in a super-clingy phase again and it's difficult to even sit here and read messages, never mind post. And at night after she goes to bed, I've taken to doing cross-stitch or reading, rather than sitting at the computer. I can't even remember what my last post was about! *blush*
Okay, personals (sorry if they are brief):
Sarah - glad your trip went well, and good luck transitioning Eloise to her own room, and also with Desmond getting poop trained!
Grace - Elena is also in a limbo between 1-2 naps right now. Actually a lot of people on my June pg are complaining about the same thing, so I think it's kinda normal for this age! I'm sorry he seems to be self-weaning, but that's great that he grew! I hope his 12-month appt went well today. And yay for 11 weeks! Go sticky bean! I haven't been following the pregnancy threads so don't know if you've talked about this, but are you going to find out the gender again this time around?
Kate - congrats on Ray finishing kindergarten! I can't even imagine Elena in school. Ack! And my, what a big boy you have there! He weighs more than twice as much as my bf's 3.5 yo daughter - who granted is very petite for her age but still! LOL.
Anna - glad to hear nothing is physically wrong with Teddy, but good that you went to the ped to have him checked out anyway. A doctor once told me, "I'd rather be the idiot who wasted a specialist's time than be the idiot who didn't". LOL. I hope you can get him liking food soon. And wow for 28 lbs! He actually weighs exactly the same amount as my above-mentioned bf's 3.5 yo daughter. LOL. Love the pictures - he looks so much like a proper little boy now and
I just realized I never came back to update on James' 12 month appointment.
He hadn't gained as much weight as I hoped. He's still at 19.5 lbs, and 30 inches tall. His height is fine but his weight is still low. The dr. decided to test him for iron deficiency (which was awful, drawing blood from a screaming kicking, refused-to take-nap, one year old is really no fun). Anyway, turns out he's anemic and that's probably why he's been gaining poorly, so he'll be on iron supplements and I'm supposed to push iron high foods (as though meal time is not already stressful enough...).
So that's what's going on with us, hopefully the supplements help and he starts to grow better soon... I feel bad about not pushing for the testing earlier when the dr. kept brushing aside my concerns about his weight gain.
Anyway that's where we're at, still teething, nap times and bed times have been rough.
Aww I'm sorry Grace! Ugh I couldn't imagine a dr - or anyone - drawing blood from Elena. :( That must have been so awful.
Does he like the iron-fortified cereals at all? One serving has a full-day's requirement of iron and there are so many different flavours.
I'm sorry the doctor was brushing off your concerns so consistently. I recall most of us trying to reassure you as well. :/ Just goes to show nothing beats good old-fashioned mother's intuition.
Anna - Those pictures of Teddy are absolutely precious!! He is quite photogenic - have you ever thought of contacting a modeling agency?
Kelly - Elena's bday cake is darling! That is so sweet that you want to carry on the cake-baking tradition. You know, the more I look at her pictures, aside from the light hair and eyes, she has the same profile as Selin - chubby cheeks and cute nose! :-P
Grace - Sorry to hear about James' teething woes. Hope your pgcy is going well! Are you going to find out the gender? I'm thinking girl for you. :-)
Ugh I lost my post.
Anyways I figured I'd bump the thread again.
We had a good father's day. We went blueberry picking in the morning which the kids loved and then to my in-laws for the afternoon and evening. They went in and out of the small blow up pool and sprinkler half a dozen times when we were there and generally had a great time.
Desmond loves to swim, he can now swim almost 10 feet underwater on his own. It is actually really impressive because he improved a ton between Monday and Tuesday, Monday he wasn't really using his arms, and on Tuesday he was. He still has trouble when he comes up for air and he can't float on the top of the water, but he is getting there. I am guessing I'll have a little swimmer by the end of the summer.
Eloise is having fun in the pool too, she likes to jump in, with help, since she can't actually jump yet and she doesn't want to go under when she jumps in *grin*. She also loves swimming around the pool on my back. She loves the water and has a lot of fun while we are at the pool.
We are going back to Sesame Place this weekend and Desmond is really excited. He has been asking to go on the roller coaster and water slides since we left two weeks ago and he can't wait to go back and get to ride on them. He is really excited. He also starts camp next Tuesday, which just seems so soon and makes him seem so grown up! He will be there from 9:30am till 1:15pm. He is going 2 days next week and then 2 days the week after the 4th, and then he has two sessions when he is going 3 days after that. And then it will be fall and he'll be off to preschool, eek! He is growing up. Still not potty trained, but it is okay with his camp and preschool, since they are also a full time daycare center. I am hoping camp will help him train watching all the other kids go and all. Go peer pressure! He also starts his summer session of gymnastics next week, so we are about to start our extremely busy summer session!
Eloise is going to enjoy her Mommy time. She has her 15 month well baby visit on Friday, it is hard to believe she is 15 months already, she seems so much younger then Desmond did at that age. I think it is mainly because I have Desmond to compare her to, since she is actually talking a ton more then he did at this age. I am hoping her hair starts growing some soon though.
Not much else going on here. We are going to Atlanta for the weekend of the 4th which should be nice. The kids will love playing with their grandparents and going down the water slide at their pool, since Desmond is too short to go down the one at our pool.
Hope everyone else had a good weekend and is keeping busy.
Been awfully quiet around here!
Sarah - Sounds like you guys had a really nice Father's Day! That is so cool that Desmond can swim underwater already. You will soon have two little fish on your hands! Btw, what is Sesame Place? I'm assuming it has something to do with Sesame Street? It will be interesting to see if preschool has any affect on Desmond's potty training. I hope for your sake it does! I remember when I worked in a daycare back in high school, the kids preferably had to be potty trained by age 3 and there was one kid that was 3 but still in diapers so they used to send him over to us (I worked with the 1-2 y/o's) to change his diaper.
Hope everyone else is doing well! I miss reading all the toddler (and big kid) updates!
It sure has been quiet! Where'd everybody go? I suppose since summer is officially here, everyone is out and about enjoying the long days!?
Sarah - I was also wondering what Sesame Place is...! Sounds like it was a beautiful father's day for you guys!
Well since the thread is quiet, it's the perfect time for me to chime in with my first post here! Alex is 2 years, 5 months old. He is a terrific kid and such a good big brother. Some ladies here were talking about how toddlers can be such picky eaters, and I hear ya on that one. Alex has a short list of foods he'll consistently eat, then some foods he'll eat today but not tomorrow (and vice versa) and some foods he won't touch with a 10-foot pole. I think my kid is out of the ordinary because if it was up to him, he'd have fruit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You name any kind of fresh fruit, he loves it. He has been known to eat a pint of raspberries in one day. So I guess that's good that he's a fruit-itarian, LOL.
For the past couple weeks, he's had DH and I so puzzled about his behavior at naptime/bedtime. He switched to a toddler bed/new room at Christmastime, and did fantastic, once he got used to the new setup, he'd go to bed, talk to himself, go to sleep, and wouldn't get out of bed until we came to get him in the morning. Last week, he started stalling by asking for water and more kisses, etc at bedtime, and wanting me to stand in his room until he fell asleep. I couldn't continue down that road since we have a 2-month-old, so I let him CIO. The crying lasted a couple nights, but then it changed to him refusing to sleep in his bed anymore. For a week and a half now, we tuck him into bed, say good night, and leave the room. He promptly brings his blanket and stuffed animals to his door, opens the door (where we have a gate set up) and he curls up and goes to sleep on the floor. He stays that way all night long. The weird thing too is that he doesn't talk himself to sleep like he used to, he just lays there without a peep until he drifts off. I told DH that I pick my battles, and this isn't one of them. He is sleeping, thank goodness, and not crying or trying to bust the gate down, etc. But why he is boycotting his bed, I don't know. I'm thinking if it keeps up, I might put some Diego sheets on his bed to entice him to stay there. It just makes my back hurt to think of sleeping on the floor all night, KWIM? But maybe I'm letting it bother me more than it bothers him.
