I wanted to thank all of you ladies for your loving support! Your words of encouragement really helped me through the last week and I am in so much more of a positive place now!

A friend pointed out to me that we should feel lucky and blessed to get to parent a unique child and pleased that the universe considered us strong and creative enough to rise to the challenges involved and that really helped me get into a more positive mindset.

I feel much more prepared for the journey ahead of us now :).

Thanks again for all of the support!!!

Megan it is wonderful that you have discovered this so early on and are getting him a diagnosis and EI now. If he does end up with a diagnosis in the Autism Spectrum Disorder, he sounds like he will do very well and continue to do well and be high functioning. He couldn't have better parents either. I will continue to pray for you.

Megan,
I just read your first post and wanted to offer some kinds words and support. My oldest DD Jaslyn is autistic. We noticed early on like you that something may not be quite right and brought it up to her doctor. We too went to a pedi nuerologist who at first didn't think she was because she had great eye contact and did a lot of things, but her speech was definitely delayed. We got EI for her very early on and I like to think that it did her some good. She is now 5 and in Kindergarten in a regular school in a regular class. Although her speech isn't up to her classmates she is getting better day by day. She does all the work the other kids. Her major things that she is working on is socializing because that is difficult if your child happens to be autistic and the speech. I like to think that I made a very good decision having another baby early on so that she was forced to play with someone constantly rather than be an only child for too many years. It looks bleek in the beginning when you are first hit with this, but your friend is right God felt that we were strong enough to handle these very special little ones. They grow up to do incredible things and we love them all the same. GL and stay on top of whatever help he needs. It is a great benefit in the long run. I think me having Jaslyn in daycare from 17 months until she was ready for Pre-K was a great thing for her as well. She was exposed to kids and adults everyday.

Thank you so much for sharing your DD's story! It is so encouraging to know that my hopes for Ry don't have to end just because of this diagnosis. Thanks for the advice, too. I'm working on getting Ry out of the house and around other kids more often, and DH and I are currently negotiating when to TTC #2, so it's good to know that having a sibling has been beneficial for Jaslyn.

Thanks again!
Megan
