Update on Fede

Hi girls! Here is a quick update on our situation.
This first week was a bit exhausting for us, with lack of sleep and several problems that came up.
First, one of the many fears of postpartum women happened to me... Some of my stitches tore while going #2.... I was soooooooooooo scared!!!!!! Thankfully it wasn't so bad, and with the help of DH (who is a saint and has been taking good care of the wound), it is healing nicely.
Then, my milk came in and one of my breasts got "clogged" or something, so it felt hard rock and very sore. I was told I was in serious risk of developing mastitis, so I've been pumping and massaging it a lot. I think it is better now, the Dr. will tell me tomorrow.
And third, our baby developed jaundice and had to be put in the NICU for phototherapy. That was yesterday noon, and I think I cried a river. Today I'm more calm and reasonable, and I know it's for his own good, but gosh! it is so hard to leave him there!!! One of the hardest things I've ever had to do!!!
I can go every three hours to breast feed him, but as you can imagine that is really time consuming. All this to say that I'll post again when things go back to normal and I have more time in my hands.
See you!!!

Mari, I am so sorry Fede developed Jaundice! Eliza had it too when she was born, and she had to be under the lights for 24 hours. I COMPLETELY understand how you are feeling. Leaving her there all alone in the incubator just broke my heart and I cried, too. But it's helping Fede get better and I bet after 24 hours he will be ready to go home with you. KUP!!

And wow - I'm soooo sorry about your stitches! OUCH! Your DH is the best - sounds like he Is taking great care of you. How sweet.

Mari, sorry for your three stumbling blocks, but at least none of them is serious. I hope Fede doesn't have any more issues with jaundice and you don't get mastitis!

Mari,

I am so sorry that Fede developed jaundice. Hopefully those lights will have him better in no time. That is awful about your stitches tearing. I am glad that Mati is taking such good care of you though.

Mari, so sorry to hear that your first week into mommyhood has not been the smoothest. However, I am glad to hear that things are going better for you. I hope little Fede is out and back home with you soon. I'll keep your little family in my thoughts!

aw, poor fede. it's not uncommon for babies to develop jaundice and need the bili lights in the beginning as i recall though, so rest assured it was nothing you did. i know that i did as a baby, and my DH did too (as my MIL so relished in telling me all about over this past weekend). i'm sure the separation is awful though. i hope you can have him back home in your arms soon, and that your pre-mastitis continues to clear up. and i hope you managed to have a good holiday as well. hang in there!

I am so sorry that you have been having so many difficulties. It is definitely hard in the beginning and so many things can come up and with your emotions and being a first time mom factoring in you can go downright crazy. Hang in there and remember that you are doing a wonderful job even if you don't feel like that sometimes. Your little boy is lucky to have the two of you as parents and you are lucky to have him.

Hope you begin to feel better and that everything goes great with Frede.

Oh, by the way I miss you gals that had your babies already!!!

Mari,

Big (((HUGS))) mama!

I'm so sorry to hear things got off to a rough start after coming home but what's most important is that you and Fede are healthy. I can only imagine how hard it must be to leave him in the NICU but know that he is in good hands and it is only temporary.

Wishing you and Mati all the best in the new year!!

Hi girls!!!
So, I'm slowly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel... LOL!! Fede got out of the NICU last tuesday. It was a total surprise, and his bilirrubin levels were not as low as we wanted, but the NICU was invaded with at least 8 new babies (premature and critical cases), so the lowest risk babies (that was the jaundice ones), were sent home with close monitoring. But he is doing really well now. So that is one less worry.
My boobs are fine now too. I'm just trying to set a feeding routine now. I was starting to get one, and then the baby was sent to NICU, were the nurses apparently the STUFFED him with formula between my breast feedings, so now he is much more demanding, and it's getting tricky to please him.
And me?? Very scared of mommyhood to be honest!!! I can't believe how much I love this little person, seriously, I never fully understood that thing about giving your life for someone... Like it was a theoretical thing... now I feel it!!! But at the same time I can't believe how demanding he can be, and sometimes, during the middle of the night, when I'm feeding him and falling asleep at the same time and then he just refuses to go back to sleep... well I wish he had a "stand by" button somewhere!!!!(please don't think I'm a horrible person)
Thank goodness DH is helping me A LOT. He's doing most of the house chores, and also taking care of the baby sometimes. And working on top of everything!!! I love him soooo much!!! And I kind of miss him too, because although we spend a lot of time together, now all of that time is devoted to the baby, KWIM??
Well, that is all for now. I have no idea when I'll have time again to post. Let's hope it is soon! :)

Mari, I'm glad to hear things start to look up! It's great that Fede is out of the NICU and doing well.
It's so sweet how you describe being "scared of mummyhood" - so true! It's awful what sleep deprivation can do to you and sometimes you just think, "Oh please, just let me be for a few minutes!". It will get easier! Every week will be a little easier than the previous one; and at some point you'll look back and think: "Wow, that was pretty hard back then!" :-) And I totally KWYM about the endless love you feel for your baby - all of a sudden you know you'd do ANYTHING for this little person. It's a clever trick of nature to give us this love; it helps so much to get through the early days! ;-)
Hope things keep getting better for you, and you'll join us in the Updates thread soon!
