Updates!!

I think we need an updates thread, because I miss hearing about how everyone's babies are doing.

So for us, James is 4 months now!! I can't believe how fast it's going, I was looking at him the other day and wondering where my little baby went, it's crazy how fast they change!

We went for his four month appoint last week, and I was really unhappy with the Dr. so I think we'll be trying to do some insurance adjustments and find another one soon. At this appointment James was 15lbs 14 oz, and 25 in long. Which I think makes him about normal. The new dr. didn't tell me what percentile it is like the old one did.

Has anyone else had a baby that dropped drastically on the percentile chart? Like I'm sure James is doing fine, and he still seems big and healthy and everything, but he's gone from the 93rd% percentile to like the 60th or something.

Anyway, everything is going well, we're still not sleepign through the night, but he does (typically) only wake up once in the middle of the night around 5am, so that has been nice!

James still doesn't roll over, but he's getting very close, and he can tripod sit for a minute or so before he leans too far one way or the other.

How are all the other WTT babies??

Barrett had his 6 month appt last week and got a ton of shots (they had the flu shots available and since there is such a shortage in our area I went ahead and got them at the same time as his routine vacs). He was such a little trooper - he actually didn't even cry until his second shot and the crying lasted about 10 seconds after the last shot.

He was 18 lbs 6 oz and 26 in long so he's still in the 50-75%. DH and I have started offering solid foods but Barrett enjoys playing with his food much more than eating it right now. He is getting the hang of drinking from a straw although he's not overly fond of water so he doesn't always drink that much :) Other than that we are slowly working our way toward crawling but I'm thinking (hoping really) that I have at least a good month or two before he figures out how to get anywhere quickly.

I suppose part of my hangup over cosleeping comes from a very old set of rules. My ex (ODS's bio dad) had all these rules about what I could and couldn't do. I couldn't use playtex nursers because he couldn't operate the bags. (While he never once made a single bottle...) I couldn't hold the baby while feeding him, lest I spoil him. Cosleeping was absolutely against the rules. There were others... Even though it's been 12 years since then, and eight years since I've been with him, the habits or ideas that were formed when I was "learning" to be a mommy are still there in the back of my mind. So while I "know" that I shouldn't be cosleeping, I am loving every minute of having him so close and doing all of the things that were against the rules when my ODS was little. Funny how sometimes, the emotional scars never go away.

Jan, what a great post, I totally agree.

I'm glad you're finding "your way" now and can let the past be past and move on! Good for you! It's nice to hear that Kaeden is doing so well, and starting to crawl.
I can't believe how old all our babies are getting, with many past the half-year mark now...

Finally get the time to post a quick update myself!
Teddy is now 8 1/2 months old, and continuing to do well especially with his motor skills. He too started standing on his own a few weeks ago, albeit only for about 5-10 seconds then drops on his well padded bum :-) He's walking with support, either his little zimmerframe, or on one hand. H'es started to say "Mama" and means it, which I found surprising but of course I'm very pleased! At first I thought it was babbling accidents but about a month ago he started to call "Mama!" when he'd wake up, or say it when I pick him up or tell him off for something ;-)
One thing still not going so well is his eating, but I've decided not to worry about it anymore. He'll come around to it when he's ready I guess!
LAst week he's had his settling in sessions at nursery, which went very well - he didn't cry or was upset at all (I was though, he doesn't miss his mummy, boo hoo). I only left him for 2 and next day 3 hours though. What he didn't do at nursery was eat, sleep or drink milk, but I'm hoping that he'll take at least some milk when I leave him all day next Wednesday. He just thinks all these toys and babies are too exciting!
He's going through a nasty spell of teething at the moment, tooth #4 took forever to get through and was very painful, and now no.s 5 and 6 are nearly out and causing more red clown's cheeks, dribbling, diarrhea and agony!
AFM, I'm returning to work with my hours cut back to a third (only doing 1 1/2 days now). I had planned to do more, but that was before I had Teddy! Now I can't bear the thought of leaving him and one and a half days will be bad enough. Hats off to all you American ladies who go back to work soon after the baby is born -that must be so hard! Part of me is looking forward to the buzz of working life, and just to have some life outside the baby-world; but the other part is very reluctant to leave her baby boy for a whole day!

How's everyone else keeping up?

Aw! Teddy is a very secure little boy! That is awesome he likes his school, I hope his eating gets better, from what I hear most kids go through a anti-eating phase.

Daphne's next appt is dec 1st, on our home scale she is up to 12.5lbs. She isn't doing any new stuff aside from growling and eating her hands.

Well Eloise is now 8 months old. She has started reverse cycling, which sucks, she just has little to no interest in nursing during the day because there is so much to do, but it means she wants to nurse almost every hour all night long. I am starting to get really tired! If she would push it to every 2 to 3 hours at night I could deal, but every hour is a bit much even with her in bed so I don't have to move much.

She has 6 teeth now, the last 2 just sort of showed up without me and DH noticing till this weekend. She is working on standing with no support and can do it for a few seconds at a time, I am guessing she will be walking soon eek!

She climbed up the stairs at my in-laws last weekend, which shocked all of us, we didn't know she could climb stairs, but apparently she can.

She will put her arms up now so people will pick her up and show how big she is. She likes to clap her hands, and is quite good at it, which is something she picked up in a past few days as well. She also said dog and clapped at K-line a couple of times so she apparently has 4 words now, dada, hi, doll and dog.

She is also loving playing with her brother, she loves playing with him and helping him with whatever he is doing. He is her favorite person.

As for Desmond, he is talking a ton now and he is becoming a lot clearer so it is easier to understand him. He is also interested in puzzles now and working on 8 to 12 piece ones, which he still needs some help with, and is getting pretty good at it. He also had a growth spurt since he is now taller and has just outgrown our backup car seat for him, which means we need to look at getting him a new one, which is gonna be a bit expensive, sigh.

Thanks Joelle for my new sig

Barrett is taking an extra long nap right now (longer than 45 minutes - yay!!!!) so I thought I'd chime in with a quick update too.

He is working very hard on learning to crawl currently. He's got this goofy little army/bear crawl thing he does now to get around where he is down on his elbows and pushes with his feet. He usually gets his bum and entire leg (except the foot) off the floor (it's quite a sight) and then either manages to inch forward or fall over onto his side :) I guess I need to get the video online. He also has started to get up on his hands and knees, but hasn't figured out how to crawl from that position.

As for food, we've sort of started solids in a really relaxed way. I gave him broccoli last week which he mushed around and sort of tasted but didn't really eat. Then a couple days later I gave him broccoli again, and he dropped every single piece on the floor -no tasting involved, he knew he didn't want to eat that! He has managed to feed himself banana puree from a preloaded spoon but so far that's about the only thing he has actually eaten.

And he is absolutely obsessed with our cat but fortunately not crawling yet so he's only caught the cat's tail once. :D

Hi ladies!

Sarah - that's pretty freaky that Eloise can climb stairs! Yikes! I thought something like that would come much later. We don't have any stairs in our place, but my best friend has a townhouse with 3 levels so once she's mobile we'll really have to watch her there!

Brita - I think that's called commando crawling. They do that before they really get up on their hands and knees. Elena almost did that about a week or two ago - she was having tummy time and she just sort of dug her knee into the floor and pushed the lower half of her body - her arms just didn't cooperate. LOL.

AFM - *TMI warning* - I am dealing with a horrible case of mastitis that has developed into a nasty, nasty abscess. My doctor put me on antibiotics and told me to go to the ER to have it drained, so I did, but the doctor there told me to give it a few more days to see if it would rupture on its own. Yesterday it did, and today it is just pouring pus all over the place (I warned you about the TMI!), and still doesn't look like it is getting any better.
