Updates!!

I think we need an updates thread, because I miss hearing about how everyone's babies are doing.

So for us, James is 4 months now!! I can't believe how fast it's going, I was looking at him the other day and wondering where my little baby went, it's crazy how fast they change!

We went for his four month appoint last week, and I was really unhappy with the Dr. so I think we'll be trying to do some insurance adjustments and find another one soon. At this appointment James was 15lbs 14 oz, and 25 in long. Which I think makes him about normal. The new dr. didn't tell me what percentile it is like the old one did.

Has anyone else had a baby that dropped drastically on the percentile chart? Like I'm sure James is doing fine, and he still seems big and healthy and everything, but he's gone from the 93rd% percentile to like the 60th or something.

Anyway, everything is going well, we're still not sleepign through the night, but he does (typically) only wake up once in the middle of the night around 5am, so that has been nice!

James still doesn't roll over, but he's getting very close, and he can tripod sit for a minute or so before he leans too far one way or the other.

How are all the other WTT babies??

Kelly--

That stinks about the mastitis, and I think you are totally right--Elena was very lucky to have BM for so long and I really admire you for pumping.

Hey mamas,

Just popping in, sorry it's been so long. There's no way I could catch up on all the updates, but just wanted to say to Kelly, yikes and OUCH on the mastitis and abscess and you are absolutely right. It takes a tremendous amount of love and willpower to EP and you've given your LO an awesome start!

I'm not even sure how much I have to update...

Ry is *this* close to walking. He can stand alone when he doesn't notice that he's standing alone (like old cartoon characters who can run in the air as long as they don't look down. As soon as he realizes that's what he's doing, he sits right down, haha. He walks alone with his push-along car toy and he can walk holding just one of our hands, and he's pretty steady. I think he just lacks confidence, but I expect to see that first independent step any day now.

He is EVERYWHERE! Long gone are the days when I could put him down, run into the kitchen to grab a bite and run back. Now he takes off, either by crawling or by hitching a ride on his push-along car, haha. He's starting to really like opening cupboard doors and tipping things over, too, so I really have to watch him.

He still loves books and his favorites are getting longer and more complicated with fewer pictures. He recognizes certain words and points to them in the books, which I think is awesome. We probably read for 1-2 hours a day, but he would be happy to do it all day long I think.

He is still allergic to dairy and wheat. The wheat thing is starting to drive me crazy because I'm really, really tired of having to come up with wheat-free meals, and especially of trying to bake without wheat. He eats what we eat for the most part, so we all have to abide by his dietary needs. Also, we went to a first birthday party and he was upset that he couldn't have cake like the other little ones :(. My friend whose little girl it was was really nice and had fruit for him, but he was so not interested, lol. We tested the wheat allergy a couple of weeks ago, and he definitely still has it, poor fella!

The only thing I'm concerned about is that he's still not talking. I spend all day trying to get him to repeat words and he either ignores me or gets upset so I stop. In general, he doesn't mimic our behavior. He will fulfill commands or requests to point to things and if you ask a question like, "Where is Daddy?", he'll point to Daddy, but if you do something, like clap, or pick something up, or pet the animals, or say a word and try to get him to copy you, he won't do it. I'm not sure if he can't or if he won't, because he has copied phrases we've said on 4 or 5 occasions, but I don't count that as talking because it's not repeatable. He'll say the phrase once and then never say it again. The ped said if he wasn't saying 2-3 words by 15 months, we would be referred to speech therapy, so it looks like that might happen. I can tell when he's around other 1 year olds that he's a little different from them, but he seems to be able to do most of the things they can do, he just interacts with people in a different way. I'm trying not to be too worried about that, but of course I am a bit...

I suppose that's it! I'm going to try to be a more active member of this thread, because I really enjoy reading about the other WTT babies!

Megan - so sorry about the allergies! Who knows, he may still grow out of them. Would it be possible to bring his own little wheat/dairy free cake to any future birthday parties? Or is that rude? I know that if I was hosting a birthday party it wouldn't bother me in the least - I might even try to provide something myself. I wouldn't be too concerned about his talking yet - apparently I was a very late talker. But I saw on your FB that he is saying "kitty" now so that's great!

AFM - the abscess is MUCH better. I just have a hole in my boob now that is slowly healing. It doesn't hurt anymore, and the only real annoying thing (other than having to keep changing the bandage of course) is that it leaks milk when I pump. Yuck! On that front, I have officially started weaning off the pump. I am so done with it, it's not funny. I'm hoping that by Christmas day, I'll be done.

Elena is getting really close to crawling! Last night she scooted forward about an inch when she was on her tummy. She dug her knees into the floor and her arms cooperated for about one second and that was it, she moved! Eeek! She STILL won't sit up unsupported though. Oh well. In time! She also had her first taste of rice cereal on Saturday. For the most part she wasn't sure what to make of it, but when you've been getting all your meals in liquid form from a bottle, of course this mushy stuff on a spoon is going to be strange. LOL!
