We're HOME!

After exactly 3 weeks in the nicu the girls were released to come home yesterday! It was kind of a flurry and in some ways I felt rushed out and had this whole letdown "Now what?" moment when we got home...

But 24 hours have passed and we've all survived! :) The girls have stayed on their schedule for the most part, eating every 4 hours, back to back, and largely sleeping in between. We get a good 2 to 2-1/2 hour break between feedings to nap, clean, etc. We knew when we were discharged that we might have some issues with feeding Juliette... their feeding tubes had only been out since Friday, and although both girls continued to gain weight on just bottle/breast feeding, Juliette has continued to be a pretty lazy little preemie eater, while Elia sucks it down. Elia's been taking 50-80ml per bottle feed and the nurses had been able to get about 50 out of Jules (she'll breastfeed for about 20 minutes usually, but I have no idea how much she's taking in). Clearly though, the nurses know what they're doing and we don't.

Thanks Lisa, that means a lot. They are precious... today I was just thinking back on the journey we've been on to get here, and I felt so very blessed that here we are at the end of it all with two healthy beautiful little girls.

In case I somehow didn't say it before, congratulations on your two precious little girls, and I am so glad to hear that they are safely home now. Truthfully, this post is one of the biggest reasons I kept lingering around here hoping to see them out of the hospital. Yay! I'll keep their weight in my prayers. :D

And here I thought I was the only looney. ;) I'm working on it!

Sara- um, duh, you just meant to have a baby scale at home to weigh them every so often to make sure they're gaining. Lol. I hope my brain comes back soon. ;)

Congrats on having the girls home Andi and I am glad they are gaining. Even with Sully I sometimes wish I knew how much he was eating, even though he is growing well and I have never had an issue breastfeeding, it is kind of disconcerting to just trust that your body is making enough food for the baby.

Thank you for the sig Mary

OMG! I thought I was the only looney case that did that!!! Ok. I didn't pump, but I remember that until Fede was 2 months I was secretely hoping I could switch to bottles so I could see if he was really eating well!

I would do that too! I think that was one (of the many) reasons why BF didn't work for us, because I was so concerned about the exact number of mL he was getting and how many oz's he was gaining, etc, etc.. Hopefully you can let that go soon!

And yay for both girls gaining! Great news, and I'm sure they'll continue to do so!

Alyssa - you're so right! It's all about the numbers, to the point that sometimes I find myself pumping right before a feeding just so I can give it to them in a bottle and know exactly how much they took. How ridiculous is that?!? I need to stop.
