When to stop working?

Hi all!

For current and soon-to-be BTDTs who were/are working, how long before your due date did/will you stop working?

My supervisor is going on sabbatical, so will be away for the majority of the time between now and when Evan arrives. I'd like to sit down and talk with her about my plans for when to stop working, etc. in an ideal case (i.e., I don't have to go on bed-rest for some reason - we'll deal with those situations if they come up).

How did you decide when to stop working? Did your company have a specific policy, or was it basically up to you?

TIA!

I worked until two days past my due date - I was due on a Wednesday and worked until Friday. I went into labor the following Monday evening, so had one real day of "maternity leave".

I'd initially be planning to stop working a week earlier. But, I was feeling great and had some stuff to wrap up at work. I also think I would have gone stir crazy being past due at home. As it was, I was really happy with how things went.

Luckily, my employer was fine with me playing it by ear and stopping whenever I wanted. (Of course, they can't do anything about it if you go into labor early, anyway.) I would have stopped as soon as I felt uncomfortable after 38 weeks.

Anyway, all things being equal, and not having maternity leave limits to stress about, I'd probably plan on stopping at 39 weeks and have plans to keep me busy for up to 3 weeks after that (including potentially, continuing working, if that's possible).

Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone! It sounds like the general consensus is to make sure to have a bit of time off planned in order to relax, but not too much because it can get tedious/boring.

My supervisor will be pretty flexible about it, so I'm guessing I'll tell her that I'll work until the week before my due date unless something drastic happens.

If your DH took time off, when did he start? DH is thinking of working right until I go into labor, which seems reasonable to me - no use him hanging around the house, using vacation time up.

Maxim was due May 25th so I planned to take off starting May 7 (my birthday is May 8 so that was my reasoning). I ended up getting high blood pressure towards the end so at the advice of my OB, I was done working April 30th to get monitored at home more closely between appts with the OB.

Thank god I did because Maxim was exactly 2 weeks early and I only had one week of time to myself! I did some very light housework but thought I still had a few weeks so I didnt do much...I did more fun stuff like shopping, relaxing and spending time with friends. I dont regret it at all and will do something similar next time around (working until about 37-38 weeks and then stopping).

As for DH, he worked until I went into labor which was a Sunday. His last day of work was May 7th and because I was in the hospital for so damn long (Sunday to Wednesday, baby came Tuesday), he didnt go back to work until after the May 2-4 weekend...which happened to be Tuesday May 25th, Maxim's due date! I wanted him at home with me for at least a week so those days in the hospital didnt count in my mind and then it didnt make much sense to go in for a few days before the long weekend. He ended up taking 8 vacay days, plus Victoria Day stat holiday, plus his 2 days given to fathers in their collective agreement.

DH will work until I go into labor. He only has 1-2 weeks off of paid leave (depending on how many vacation days he takes before then), so we want to save them all for when the baby comes. He plans on staying home for a month though (maybe going back part time in the last week or so).

My dh worked until the day I was induced. It was a little different being induced. I felt like I was checking into a hotel. :) I was induced on a Friday gave birth on a Sunday and he took up until the following Monday off. So he was off a week and one day.
