Thanks for setting this up Ash!
So Elena is 8 months old now. Eeek! I got her weighed this morning at the parent/infant drop-in thing that my local public health office does every Wednesday, and she is up to 17 lbs 6 oz! She's gained almost 2.5 lbs in just under 2 months! She's now starting to look much more average for her size, rather than looking to be on the petite side.
She's not crawling yet but she's sooo close. She creeps backwards and turns sideways no problem, she just doesn't have that forward momentum figured out yet. LOL. She's rolling like an absolute pro though - it's her preferred method of travel. She was on the floor last night and I turned away for like a minute, and when I turned back she was about
My "baby" turned 6, 4 days ago. How is that possible?
His party was OK. I was tired of him having 2 parties (one friends and one family) so I tried to combine them. That was a bad idea. Too many people and he got so overwhelmed. I will need a new plan for next year.
He had his 6 yo physical last week. He's now 49" and 58 lbs. (He started at 19.5" and 6 lbs. 14 oz). This past year he had his biggest weight gain ever, and while he is still a "slim" we do need to keep an eye on his weight gain (it's one of those, it's a concern but not really since he looks fine and is so healthy, his DR thinks he might be bulking up be growing "up".)
He boarder-line passed his eye exam, but since they are not vary accurate at the ped's office and I had glasses since I was 4 we are going to get his eyes checked at the optometrist.
Adrienne!!!!! lmbo I feel so loved
I have been BUSY! But after next week I should be back to normal.
1st clothes update, um wow some of the brands MIL had here for daphne are too big 3-6mos ah these sizes drive me nuts!
MIL smokes inside. and it is horrible. I would have insisted on a hotel but we had to buy a car and furniture so I keep daphne out of the house as much as possible. The guilt is unbelievable. We are out of here Monday and I can't wait. It really sucks too bc aside from that (huge huge thing) MIL is awesome. (she is on my FB btw)
Daphne is on hands and knees rocking but is afraid to move her hands and go forward. she doesn't move anywhere on purpose, just scoots backwards on accident. and she doesn't roll to get places either, even though she can roll both ways.
Oooooo the flight! It was horrible! lol, Daphne was as good as could be expected. The plane was delayed 1.5 hr for an error message that they couldn't fix so they had to fly at a lower altitude, which takes longer. It was very turbulent. Daphne played ate and slept on that flight. We missed our connection bc the flight was delayed and had to fly to denver then tx and daphne screamed on both those flights =)
We bought a 06 Sentra and her big girl car seat barely fits RFing. It will be interesting when we have another baby in a few years and have to get 2 of them back there!
I'm really glad we saved a lot in KR bc we have to pay the first mos rent upfront (we thought not bc it's military housing) And we are buying a w/d and furniture.
Well that was a loooooong update!
Hi Joelle! It's been a while since you've popped in! Great to hear from you. I follow your blog, so I know you guys were getting ready to head back to the states, sounds like you got here safe and sound (sorry the flights were so horrible though :/) - welcome home! I adore your siggies (I see you have a few different ones), they are beautiful. I need to go and request a new siggy... babies grow and change so fast.
Blech - sorry about MIL smoking in the house. I can't believe she would *choose* to keep doing that with her granddaughter in the house. And it's not as if you're staying long-term, couldn't she cut it out for at least the short time you'll be there??? I just can't understand that... so because of that, you and Daphne are getting out of the house a lot, it sounds like!? Are you enjoying Texas so far?
Kelly, I have to say I just adore Elena! She has such a cute face :-) Well done to the weight gain. She'll probably be crawling in no time, and then you'll wish back the times when you could leave her for a few moments without her causing havoc...
Lorien, Patrick is so sweet! MEGA jealous of your holiday, it sounds you guys had a great time. I could do with some sunshine too... winter is an evil season in regards to illnesses; I think between me, DH and Teddy we have been ill since October.
Joelle, glad you got to the US alright. MIL smoking in the house is nasty though. Have you asked her if she'd not do it while you're there, or would you rather not go there? My MIL smokes too but will go outside for it when we're visiting.
AFM, not too much going on really! We're now definitely on for TTCing in June (hooray!#, so I got TCOYF back out and reading it again in preparation ;-# Also planning Teddy's first birthday parties - he'll have three! One with his baby friends, one with close family, and then another joint big do with my DH #his birthday is the day after Teddy's). Quite looking forward to it, but as ever I'm also a bit sad to see my little baby grow up.
I guess he now isn't really a baby anymore... he's walking so confidently now, we've had our first few outdoor walks and a trip to the playground today, which he enjoyed despite the sh*tty weather. He's very mischievous and always into the things that I tell him not to touch #remote controls, mobile phones, cables/wires, keys...) and lately he's become very cuddly - he'll come up to me and rub his head against me or cuddle down in my arms, and he loves to give me slobbery open-mouth kisses.
Now that their personalities show a lot more, I do notice that compared with other babies Teddy is very gentle and rather shy. He's not "in your face" and all over the place as a lot of the other boys; but will stand and watch for a while and then pick one toy and play with that. When he interacts with babies he loves to touch their faces and their hair, but never hits them or pulls their hair which I find remarkable as they don't really have much empathy at this stage.
In a way I'm very pleased that he is this way, but I'm also a bit concerned and hope he will be more confident than I was as a child (I was painfully shy). Because of his size he doesn't get pushed over easily, but if he was smaller he'd sure have a harder time at those playgroups. Maybe I worry over nothing but I do so want him to grow into a confident and self assured child!
